GPS USB dongle GT-730 F install & DeLorme Street Atlas

Here it is: Deluo 31-311-01 USB GPS for Laptop. It's a bit pricey, and it is based on a Sony chipset, which is likely not as good as SiRFstarIII found inside the BU-353.

Is it really as good as you say it is. Have you done some side-by-side comparisons. It would be very interesting to test them side-by-side.

yes,we did get it about two years ago,Deluo is a local company here in florida,they're right downton ft.lauderdale,i used to go in person to buy the units.but from my own experience with everyday driving around the BU-353 DOES NOT come close to beat this one.

Are you sure it is the OEM one? That is only a 12 channel model. The newer Deluo Pro uses a SirfStar III that should blow the doors off the OEM one.

tcassidy i have no idea,what chip it has inside.all i can tell you is that in the past five years i have spent quite few bucks buying crap GPS receivers to do my job with ease and i also do it for the other 7 trucks,8 all together.when i started to work as a truck driver there were no laptops with gps at work,i brought the idea and technology to this company,i am not expert on computers never mind the GPS technology BUT like i said i and many of my buddies here trhou me and my home internet have bought many USB GPS to do our job,one guy has a BU-353,another guy has a Deluo 31-11-01,another guy has a BU-303(crap) i have an Earthmate LT-20 very good but takes from 30 seconds to 1-1/2 minutes to get a 3D Fix after that it works great,another guy has the Canmore GT-730F(crap) which I bought it for him a week ago,one guy has Deluo BR-355 and so on,every one here has a different GPS,every one here buys what they can afford or what they hear from other truckers that is why my Boss asked me to get a price and buy the Best Unit in the market so that the drivers don't waste time getting lost because a GPS shows you the wrong way like that fricking GT-730F,hehehehehehe what a joke! even the BU-303 is better.By the way I just orderd a Globalsat ND-100 GPS Dongle because I want to do comparisson on Dongles,I beleive the technology is out there some where and with time we should have a Dongle that performs as good or better than a Cable(antenae)GPS.I don't like cables hanging around.
We are the best and bigger testing GPS fleet that you ever heard about it.8 trucks and every body has a different GPS and a different laptop,hehehehehehehehe.I will bring som pics of the crew with our laptops and the trucks.all 8 trucks are Isuzu NPR with a flat windshield at the front like a fish tank and our laptops seat right by the windshield seating on that flat dashboard,I even cut 8 pieces of plywood and glued a piece of sponge to the wood so that the laptops will not damage by the bumping while driving.good luck,will write soon about the test between the GT-730F and the Globalsat ND-100,I soon will get the ublox-5 when S&T 2010 comes out next month and that will also get tested and compare with the other dongles.

I guess my point is if you like the Deluo, they are local and you are testing a variety of GPS devices, don't overlook their Pro model. Although SirfStar III isn't exactly new technology, it is years ahead of the Sony chip in the Deluo GPS you have. I also think it should be better than the Navation 168 that comes with S&T and the GlobalSat ND-100 has that same smaller antenna area.

They may even loan you a device for testing purposes.
