I have the same unit and it works fine with Street Atlas...Be sure to turn on the GPS with the little "GPS" icon, and be sure the baud rate is set to 4800...

Also, remember SA can only see its own GPS using the USB heading. You will have to determine what COM port the driver for your GPS has assigned and change SA to look at that COM port.

For the Canmore GT-730, just select the generic nmea usb device...

I have several non-Delorme USB GPS devices and none of them work with SA in USB mode. Can you confirm the Canmore is different.

Re: GPS USB dongle GT-730 F install & DeLorme Street Atlas

I do have a CanMore GT-730F what a piece of ****!
I also have Street Attlas USA 2009 but have not tried it yet.
I preffer Mappoint 2009 or Street and Trips 2009,I drive a truck in florida with no buildings or tall trees, this is swamp land man and the Canmore sucks.During the last Five years I have tested street and trips, mappoint and differents USB GPS units been Deluo the best and more accurate than any other Models I have tested but they are very expensive(80 bucks or over) so far for me the LT-20 from Delorme that came with my SA USA is the better one,Unfortunately my Deluo broke when I had an accident. The Globalsat BU-353 are OK for the money,The Pharos from Microsoft Sucks as bad as the CanMore and many others I tried.Stay away from the GT730-F,Yes you can fix the crash problem with S&T and Mappoint but it is always off course by miles.hehehehe what a joke! USB GPS my ***.

If you are having trouble with the BU-353 and Pharos 500, you are doing something wrong. I don't know about the CanMore but your results suggest you should relocate your GPS to a location with a better view of the sky.

Re: GPS USB dongle GT-730 F install & DeLorme Street Atlas

tcassidy my problem is absolutely with the CanMore GT-730F and no other.
I don't want to use a Cabled USB GPS and I am looking for the best USB GPS Dongle to use with my laptops and 8 trucks that I have, during the past five years I have used so many different types of GPS receivers that some I don't even remember their names that is how bad they performed,I am just looking for the best Dongle by Reception,Quick Fix and Hold, also I don't want my GPS on a street that I am not even there, that is what is happening with CanMore GT-730F right now,I already fixed the crash problem they all had right out fo the box, where they just crash S&T09 or Mappoint09,that's fixed but there is no accuracy with them,I hate that I spent all that money for nothing.
We are a small commpany in West Palm Beach,FL,USA and we have 8 Isuzu Trucks with Laptops and GPS to do our job,we go from 20 to 50 Homes a day and we need this but it's been hard. Some units perform better than others,I got an LT-20 another guy has a BU-353 another guy has a Deluo GPS and so on,we are like a big Testing Fleet and it outrages me that I spent $ buying this crap.
We want to reduce the wiring thrawn around,I am in charge of finding the best reliable USB GPS Dongle for all 8 trucks, taf job man!

Re: GPS USB dongle GT-730 F install & DeLorme Street Atlas

I suspect there has not yet been a USB GPS dongle that would equal in performance a plain inexpensive USB "puck", such as BU-353. The dongles seem attractive because of their compact size, however, a smaller antenna will unlikely perform as well as a bigger antenna. Also, if you plug a USB GPS dongle straight into your laptop, likely there will be some RF interference further impeding the performance of the small unit, since it is so close to the laptop. Sever users here at Laptop GPS World can testify that their GPS dongle suddently started to work better when they used at least a short USB extension cable between it and their laptop.

Marvin thanks for your advice,I was leaning that way, well come monday I'll tell the boss the Dongles I bought are crap and we must buy 8 new GPS and I think I'll stick with Deluo,of all 8 trucks this unit performs the best outing my LT-20 the BU-353s and a Garmin also the GT-730F.

Re: GPS USB dongle GT-730 F install & DeLorme Street Atlas

The BU-353 should be as good or better than that Deluo. I can't see from its specs that it would even match the GlobalSat but maybe the antenna is a little larger. It is an older model no longer listed on the Deluo site replaced by the 311-325-xx
