SA 2009: Cannot install on EeePC 1000H "Program too big to fit in memory"

Hi all,

I am new to Delorme but not to the GPS world. Today I tried to install DeLorme Street Atlas 2009 on my Asus Eee PC 1000H (Win XP pro SP3, CPU: Atom 1.6 GH and 2 GB of RAM, I added 1 more GB when I bought it, just in case), and I got the message reported in the title of this message. I googled with no success, and I noticed that the problem is not reported here. Anyone has a clue on why I get the error message ? I tried to install on my Desktop computer (an AMD processor with 1 GB of RAM, same OS) and everything went smooth.
Thank you in advance for any help,

Diego

What method are you using to install it as the 100H does not come with a DVD drive? Do you have a stand alone drive or access to a networked one or are you using some other procedure? I don't think the error message has anything to do with the quantity of installed memory.

I am using a network DVD unit (physically on the desktop) to access the setup.exe and the other installation files.
I tried also to increase the SWAP memory size but no success : (

I would like to test it myself however my version of SA2009 (and SA2008)is a download. Buying the DVD product in Canada was a non starter - something like iGuidance! Sorry.

From what I read in Google, this message usually is the result of a corrupt file header. As you were able to install from the same DVD to another computer, this doesn't sound reasonable. Could it be a network issue?

Terry,

Thank you for the advice, today I will try with an external DVD reader, as an alternative to the network approach.
Of course I will update this thread,

Diego

Update: I switched to an external DVD reader and everything went smoothly. I still do not understand what the network problem was but am happy everything work fine now : )

Diego,

Glad to hear it worked with a DVD drive connected. Alternative methods that don't require you to buy an external DVD drive for the laptop/netbook are to use a flash drive or SD card. You can copy the installation DVD to either a flash drive or SD card, plug them into the laptop/netbook and run the setup.exe program from there. That usually works, although some software installers don't like it if they aren't run from an actual DVD.

Glad it worked out. In the case of SA, I think an attached DVD is the safest approach.
