re: Review: DeLorme Street Atlas
Hi Kevin,
I tried the handheld version of SA 2010 on my Garmin iQue 3600 yesterday and it was a frustrating experience. It takes forever to redraw the map. And it seems like it's always needing to completely redraw the map.
On my handheld the map doesn't actually move. The vehicle position indicator moves on the map until it runs into the edge of the screen. Then the map redraws. On my iQue 3600 it takes 20 to 30 seconds(!) to redraw each time. It's not useful at all on that device.
It's raining for the next couple of days so no golf in the forecast. I might try installing the handheld software and a bit of map data on my Palm T|X and see if the redraw performance is any better.
Have you tried Garmin's Mobile XT on your rx5915? I think it's available for that device. That would make it work a lot like a Garmin Nuvi.

I can't get Street Atlas 2010 to do this. Whatever order you put the stops in is the order in which it calculates the route, so you end up backtracking.

I wish that they had this feature, but so far they have not included it. I've been asking for it for years.

Re: Review: DeLorme Street Atlas
Have they got it fixed so that 401 west to 410 south works? Last year that did NOT work at all...

Re: Review: DeLorme Street Atlas
Not sure, RsH, but I still see 401 off/on ramps that shouldn't be there. Canadian coverage is not presently something Street Atlas USA 2010 excels yet.

Re: Review: DeLorme Street Atlas
I specifically wrote to them both last year and the year before about the problems at that interchange, where they send me north to the next northbound exit, then across the bridge over the 410 and onto the expressway going southbound toward Oakville rather than from the 401 westbound to the highway going southbound. That is the way I head toward Niagara Falls, rather than take the 427 south to the QEW... and I was hoping they had that mess straightened out by now, since it IS a major way of going on a major limited access highway.

Re: Review: DeLorme Street Atlas
No, as that is the 407 and 410... I am talking about the 401 collectors going westbound to the 410 southbound in Mississauga. Start with the 401 just south of Pierson International airport and try to go to the Queen Elisabeth Way west of Oakville, via the 410 south and west without using the 407, which is a toll road.

Re: Review: DeLorme Street Atlas
That's it, and yes, they have fixed it! Last year the route went north to exit 2, across the bridge, and then down the 410 or got off the 401 east of the correct exit, headed south on one of the lesser roads, then west to enter the 410 at the entrance south of the 401.
The exit from the westbound 401 in Toronto that should be west of Bathurst Street was also all screwed up... and I'm certain that I will find that one fixed too, if they paid any attention to my emails about that mess up too.
Thanks for the map... Now they have it the right way!

Re: Review: DeLorme Street Atlas
Glad they've got it working. I can do another route for the Bathurst St thing, for confirmation, if you give me a couple of points to use.

Re: Review: DeLorme Street Atlas
401 westbound west of Avenue Road in the collector lanes to Wilson Heights and Wilson Avenue should do it. Last year the exit for Bathurst Street exited onto Bathurst Street, which is wrong. It should be exiting about 3 blocks WEST of Bathurst, via a curve that actually ends up at Wilson Avenue in a T. An aerial view via Google or the City of Toronto satellite map will show you what it really looks like...

Re: Review: DeLorme Street Atlas
Ken, no need to check that one. The Bathurst Street & HWY-401 exits are the very first thing I always check when a new version of Street Atlas is released. It is my first indication of the improvements to the Canadian map data. There is no change in this version in this particular area in version 2010. It is still incorrect.
