DeLorme Street Atlas 2010 installation problem

Greetings,

I have been trying to get this product running on my laptop. I have DeLorme Street Atlas 2009 Plus installed, and it works without a hitch. I put the SA 2010 disk in and it seems to finish the install on an XP SP3 machine. After it completes (I installed it as an administrator), when running the program, I get the "ERROR" window about SA2010 MUST BE SHUTDOWN.

I have tried the following:
1. Uninstall SA 2009 then reboot, then install SA 2010
2. Uninstall 2010, Install 2009, Uninstall SA 2009 then do a regedit cleanup, try to run 2010
3. Swear at SA 2010 disk , install 2010 on machine again

The only thing that I can do to get it to work is to put it on my Vista Desktop, and it installed without a hitch.

Unfortunately, I dont have a 500 Watt inverter for the desktop and monitor, and my passenger would get a little carrying the monitor on her lap.

After all of this, I reinstalled Street Atlas 2009 Plus without a hitch. GRR.

Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong?

I just tried an installation of SA 2010 on a Win XP SP3 machine which already had SA 2008 and SA 2009 working. I didn't install as an administrator as I am the only user but it worked fine. I don't think the other version is an issue but can't think of what might be causing your problem.

Have you run a really good registry cleaner on your system? After all those installs/uninstalls the portion of the registry related to SA will likely be a royal mess.

If you don't have one, I can recommend the registry cleaner function in Windows SystemCare Personal (it's free). If you haven't run a good registry cleaner be prepared for a surprise the first time you run the registry cleaner in SystemCare. The first time I ran it it deleted over 15,000 entries (Yep, fifteen thousand!!). Made a big difference in my system performance. No need to fear it. It will tell you what it thinks it should do but won't do anything until you tell it to go ahead.
