No plans to update LT-40 serial emulator to work with Vista, 7, or any 64 bit system

After trying to install the serial emulator on a Vista laptop and not having it work without Googling for work arounds, I emailed Delorme tech support.

I was utterly astounded by the Delorme response:

Quote:
There are no plans to update the emulator to work with Windows 7 (Vista) or any 64 bit system.
Now that is the way to be sensitive to the needs of your customers and influence buyers for your products.

Thanks for sharing that interesting piece of information. I wonder of GpsGate could help here. Have you tested GpsGate by any chance?

re: No plans to update LT-40 serial emulator to work with Vista, 7, or any 64 bit system

There was a thread on the Delorme LT-40 board concerning the work around for vista.

I think that the answer was that it did not work with GpsGate.

The solution for Vista was to run it in XP compatibility mode. It was a little difficult for my son to get it working correctly though and he said that for some reason that it did not start on system startup.

We really need an emulator that is designed to work with Vista and Win7. A workaround is not the answer for Vista when it has been operational now for what -- a good two or three years.

Re: No plans to update LT-40 serial emulator to work with Vista, 7, or any 64 bit sys

I have a BT20 and posted here about it for my new tablet.
I have spent the night looking at Street Atlas and Streets & Trips to try and pick a solution for my New Windows 7 64 HP TM2 Tablet. (I am open to others also)

It seems (so far) to have caused me a problem in any direction I turn, unless I start fresh... I have an older copy of SA and a BT20.

I have just changed working for one of the largest multinationals to a small European company started by one of my interns 10 years ago. (yes,....they layed of 45% of my group ; over 100 people) Having started and run small companies, and being surrounded in my family by small business owners, I am sensitive about trying to support small businesses. All things equal, I would consider SA over S&T to keep the competition lively (and all the companies honest),

But it is looking like I am going to have to pick a solution based on who will work with my (mildly) state of the art system compatibility.

I hope Delorme management and development is working on a reasonable Win7 64Bit solution. (If you are listening, you can contact me here. I'd even be willing to sign NDA's ;0) I did a lot of Beta testing of CAD/CAM/Cax over the years and also would be willing to Beta test if I knew the company was responsive.

I can't see why you would need an emulator to use a Delorme product with Delorme software. However, I think the right choice is to abandon the BT-20 anyway. It is an older technology (LT-20 with a BT sled) and has been replaced with better GPS devices, even by Delorme. you could use any USB GPS device (such as the GlobalSat BU-353) or BT unit and get better results with the software of your choice.

I agree with Terry. Your problem has nothing to do with selecting an appropriate nav program. It has to do with lack of a driver for your current GPS receiver. Dump it and pick up an inexpensive one that has a driver for your system and you're in business. Then you can pick whatever nav program suits you.
