DeLorme Eartha, the world's largest revolving globe, has just become a lot more environment friendly. All 229 light bulbs around the three-story high icon, have been changed from 100-watt flood lights to 26-watt compact florescent lights. In fact, the new lights are so much brighter, DeLorme, the maker of Street Atlas and other software and hardware products, was able to remove more than 30 light fixtures from the building.

The new bulbs are not only brighter, they'll save the company more than sixty thousand dollars over their lifetime. The change will also eliminate about 2.3 tons of carbon emissions from the environment.

Eartha was given the title of "World's Largest Revolving/Rotating Globe" by the editors of the Guinness Book of World Records in 1999, and still holds that record today. It measures 41.5 ft in diameter.
