Re: DeLorme Street Atlas 2008/2009 vs. Microsoft Streets & Trips
Geo-
In the toolbar, you can uncheck the NavMode button (looks like the road driving into the horizon).
This will give you the navigation mode from 2008.

Re: DeLorme Street Atlas 2008/2009 vs. Microsoft Streets & Trips
Thanks, but I'm aware of that. I didn't explain my problem. In 2008 & before the green worm popcorn trail would have the map move only when the head of the trail came within 3/4 inch of an edge. But by voice commands you could see 0ver 3/4 of the screen ahead. In 2009 the head of the worm wants to stay near the center of the screen so you can see only 1/2 a screen at best the road choices ahead. In Providence, RI on an interstate, as example 4 - 5 exit only right turns very fast so you must start way to the left & then all of a sudden you've gone by the exit you want. I want the green worm to behave in 2009 as it did in 2008 etc.

Re: DeLorme Street Atlas 2008/2009 vs. Microsoft Streets & Trips
Hi geo,
 to Laptop GPS World.
This is very interesting. I think, generally speaking, it may be more difficult for people to use the software when GPS icon has to go all the way to the edge of the map before the map moves. When the GPS icon approaches the top of the screen, you don't see far ahead - unless you move the map yourself (like you are used to doing in older versions of DeLorme Street Atlas).
Try the new navigation 3D mode. In the new 3D mode the GPS icon keeps itself to the bottom of the screen, so you have great unobstructed view of the road ahead. I know some people don't like to use 3D in any GPS product, but I love it.

Re: DeLorme Street Atlas 2008/2009 vs. Microsoft Streets & Trips
Hi, Been there, done that, tried it, hated it. Because I can not see far enough ahead to see little roads & use judgement, SA2009 has tried to send me onto runways at Westover Air Base & onto rail/hiking trails on Cape Cod. By voice commands I can see the little roads way ahead when needed. I know where I've been & don't need to see it while exploring along the Atlantic shore for new beaches. What I'd like would be a big center circle & when the head of the green worm aproaches then the map would move showing more of the roads ahead. Also the head of the green worm a bright orange so it would show up when retracing. I've driven over 100,000 miles with Delorme & Streets & Trips on an IBM Thinkpad velcrowed to the dash.
Thanks

Geo-
If you go to our forums at http://forums.delorme.com/ and search for Center on GPS:the incredible shrinking box, some of our users have posted a registry hack to modify this setting.
Please note, DeLorme does not endorse registry hacks, and you should perform the update at your own risk.

Here's the direct link: Center on GPS: the incredible shrinking box
Wow, I though most people liked the new way of map movement! Well, most people likely do, but there definitely are also people who don't . It's good to know there is a way to help it via the registry.

Re: DeLorme Street Atlas 2008/2009 vs. Microsoft Streets & Trips
One of my complaints about all my maping programs is centering the GPS. I agree with Geo that showing more of the route ahead would be a big plus. Like geo, I know where i've been.

Re: DeLorme Street Atlas 2008/2009 vs. Microsoft Streets & Trips
I have been evaluating Streets & Trips recently and I may have more to add to this topic here. Zoom and Pan operation in Streets & Trips is very easy and meets common mapping application standards. Why is that so difficult to do in SA2009? I have been using it for 3 years and they dont even have a Pan functionallity . And zoom operation is pathetic

Re: DeLorme Street Atlas 2008/2009 vs. Microsoft Streets & Trips
TravelExpert-
There are a couple of ways to Pan in Street Atlas.
*As you near the edge of the map area the cursor will turn to a "grabby" hand, you can use this to move the screen.
*When the cursor is in the default mode of crosshairs the map will recenter where ever you click.
*Finally, if you right click on the toolbar and enable the Map Tools set of tools you will see the "grabby" hand button on the tool bar and you can use this to pan the map when it is enabled.
You can zoom in and out in several ways as well.
*You can use the buttons on the Control Pan on the right side of the screen.
*If you have a mouse with a roller on top that works to zoom you in and out as well.
*The Page Up and Page Down Buttons work to zoom out and in respectively.
*Finally, you can click and draw a box down and to the right to zoom in or click and draw up and to the left and you will see a stair case which allows you to pick the zoom level you would like to be at.
I hope that helps.

Thanks Shannon, it does help. At last I needed help from someone who knows about it, and I wasnt able to figure this out in 3 years.
Ok now I have selected the "grabby" and now I want to Zoom in and Zoom out using the mouse scroll when the handy is On. how to do this?

Re: DeLorme Street Atlas 2008/2009 vs. Microsoft Streets & Trips
For SA 2010 etc want list:
1) give me back f4 to turn the mike on & off. When driving on 200 mile trips I like to listen to the radio & the sound causes voice commands to go to sleep. The best way so far is "computer, coordinates". I'd like "computer, go to sleep" & the only command to active is "computer, wake up"
2)A bright orange head to the popcorn worm head so that going around & around on an unknown cloverleaf at 60+MPH & trying to read signs I can see where I am.
3)As mentioned early, a drop down menue or better a voice command to adjust the percentage of viewing screen for the diameter of a circle so the when the worm head touchers it the map moves thus showing more of the screen. That allows action like SA2009 with a zero diameter & also a better than SA2008 with a large diameter.
4)with sticky mouse keys activated all hand commands can be down with right hand only.
5)a man over board command that places a consecutive marker on the screen. This would be good for locating accidents to just beautiful views.
This is my Christmas wish list for 2010 Geo cust # 865 758

Re: DeLorme Street Atlas 2008/2009 vs. Microsoft Streets & Trips
I have topo7, SA2008, & SA2009 on my desk top & also on my in car IBM laptop. I used to use 2008 for routes because of nicer map movement. But lately things are great then all of a sudden it zooms to level 16 I reset by voice to maybe level 12. All of a sudden I'm back at level 16. Did I screw up on some "hidden command". Now I use 2009 but with "Stop Centering on GPS", & use pan commands so I can see the orange laid out route. I often see better, faster, straighter routes than the mapping comes up with. GEO

TravelExpert- I have confirmed that the roller ball should work in this case. It does not. I have passed this on as a bug to be looked into.
Thanks for the feedback.

Re: DeLorme Street Atlas 2008/2009 vs. Microsoft Streets & Trips
Christmas wish list continued: 1) grid lines are straight & could be very light while small river & stream lines are much to weak. When hiking miles from nowhere & you come across a small long river that did not show clearly but was printed but too weak to see it "aint fun". swap color intensity.
2) a gps usb receiver reader that includes an inertial element to continue readings for a short time when in a skyscrapper canyon or underground in Boston's Big Dig.

Thanks for reporting that Shannon. I hope your guys will nail down the problem and fix it for your next release. In the mean time I will send you a PM of the other issues that I have
