DeLorme Street Atlas 2009 doesn't start correct

i just got a Street Atlas 2009 CD form a freind to try out, but after installing and starting the Programm i just geht this screen:

Perhaps you are not doing anything wrong at all. It could just be that there is some problem with the installation DVD. Is it the original DVD? The best is to use a new original DVD. That way you will stay within the licence restrictions, and it will be possible to obtain support, if any issues arise.

i used the original DVD and just installed the program
So this is not the normal start screen!? I'm here in germany and a friend bought the DVD in the USA, i dont think there is a german support

i reinstalled it - same problem
is there perhaps a problem with Vista 64?

I just checked DeLorme website for minimum system requirements of Street Atlas, but there is no specific mention of 64 bit Vista - it only states the supported operating systems include Microsoft® Windows® Vista™ Home Basic/Home Premium/Ultimate/Business, etc, etc, etc.

My guess (only a guess) is that this issue is not related to compatibility problem, but perhaps it may be related to a missing file(or files). But, unfortunately, since you are not the legal licenced owner of the product, DeLorme will not help you, and people here at the forum generally don't look favorably at using and/or testing of unlicensed software.

the problem is i wont buy software i have never seen. Its not that i dont wanna pay - if i like it i will buy it of course and my college doenst have the time atm to show me software. I didn't find a Demo-Version, is there any?

No demo, I'm afraid. DeLorme website has some details about the program posted, as well as various websites have reviewed Street Atlas. If you wish to ask a specific question, feel free to open a new thread, and/or ask in an existing thread. There are people around here who use DeLorme Street Atlas extensively, they may help with some questions you may have.

I'm afraid that with all I've read about the compatibility issues with the 64-bit version of Vista, I would be very suspicious that it is a major possibility. Very few consumers buy the 64-bit version because they have no use for it. So, very few companies test their consumer products for compatibility on the 64-bit platform.

Perhaps you are not old enough, or have not been involved with computers long enough, to remember all the headaches when we were migrating from 16-bit Intel CPUs and 16-bit versions of the operating systems to the 32-bit platforms we now take for granted? They were a major job security factor for me for part of the 90's with the introduction of Windows 95 and Windows NT.

My guess would be is your language settings in control panel. AFAIK Street Atlas will only work in English (United States & Canada). It may work in more, but those two I know for sure will work. If your language is set to something different (ex. German) then I'm guessing that is why it doesn't work. Of course, this is only a guess. Don't know for sure if this is the problem.

i just installed a virtual pc with windows XP x32 and it works fine. It wasnt the language setting -which i tried.. so i think ists the 64bit mode...

I am surprised that installing on 32-bit solved your problem. We do test in-house on Vista 64-bit.

Were you logged in as an ADMIN on the Vista 64-bit machine?
