Hello, and count me in on this great opportunity to win a fantastic GPS and software. I am a young storm chaser, and am in need of a reliable GPS system for my vehicle while chasing, as I currently rely on signs, and traditional road maps. This will help me get to the storms quicker to provide the national weather service with accurate report regarding weather, to help save lives! Thank you again, and please consider me as a recipient of this amazing product.

Thanks, William LaForce

In my car setup 12.1" for moving map I use a Holux M1000 with a cable made by me. I would like to test this specific USB device in my splitted notebook.

Well, I would STILL like to WIN a copy of the software, but as happens, I wandered into a Fry's Electronics store today and just grabbed the new 2009 DeLorme off of the shelf!

It installed rather effortlessly, and I am only now getting to know my way around it. The screens are more user friendly. The added features are very nice! I am still playing with it, but if I come across something really "special" I'll post my thoughts here later on!

bikerjoe couldn't wait till the end of the contest, and he just had to buy DeLorme Street Atlas 2009!

As I said earlier, unlike previous contests, in this one winners will be selected randomly, so you still have the same chance to win, as before

By the way, I love your first posting on page one - and I urge everyone to read it. I love your mobile office, the pictures, the description, etc. It would be fabulous if you could one day, when you can spare some time, to upload some pictures also to our albums here: http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/all_albums.php

Well here goes... being completely new to all this gps stuff, thought I may as well have a go! Coming from the from the uk a few years ago to a HUGE province & even more HUGE country with another huge country just over the border (it's easy to get lost!).
I'm based in BC & following a trip to WA recently with friends I first saw an in vehicle (Honda) gps in action... I was impressed. So much so that immediately we returned home I started looking, unfortunately my wife who would be co-user of any system (as navigator) has some vision impairment so the smaller proprietary gps units present a problem.
I then started looking for alternatives, bigger screen clearer displays etc & thought "I wonder if gps software is available for laptops", that led me to this site from where I hope to learn a lot from all you laptop gps experts. Hope you'll excuse the many dumb questions I'll probably ask! Then I saw the "competition" so I subscribed & here I am .... Hoping!

Oh boy! I've been playing with the new 2009 version, and wow! It has already replaced my S&T as my PRIMARY GPS choice! I absolutely LOVE the ability to add roads to the map and have the program be able to navigate over them! I do wish the "DRAW ROAD" feature was a bit more automatic though. Rather than using the GPS trail to trace the street as I drive it (most Commiefornia streets are curved and wind around the hills) and then use the DRAW tool to trace over the green dots, only then to link up the streets at each end, it would be better if you could click on one "EXTEND ROAD" button that would automatically draw the new road using the same legend, and link the start to the finish as soon as you intersect an existing road.

Is there an easier way to add roads besides using the trail as a pattern?

Re: Win Free DeLorme Street Atlas 2009 with USB GPS Receiver LT-40 Donated by DeLorme

Hi Marvin

My name is Andrew Watson. I live in Perth, Western Australia. Before my partner Christine and I retired in December last year I was a Systems Support Engineer for 24 years. I got the first PC in my organisation in 1984.

We have just returned from Europe where we spent 6 months travelling in a leased Peugeot 207. We did 25,000 km.

Every morning I planned the day's trip on a laptop using MS AutoRoute. I opened the .AXT template which had all the Formule 1 and Etap hotels POIs in it (plus McDonalds for free WiFi, the most beautiful villages in the various countries and of course the radar cameras). I entered the overnight spot and the location of the hotel destination. I set the More Options, Segments, preferred Roads, Preferred Road Types, Dislike Motorways, Toll roads and Ferries. Very frustrating to have to do it every day. Then I let AR work out a route.

I then looked for POIs near the route and other places of interest that I read about in the guidebooks we had borrowed from the library before we left and had scanned to PDF on work's A3 scanner before we retired.

I then dragged the route to pass through the required POIs.

I used TomTom on a PocketPC to guide us to each POI through the day.

I had a sophisticated in-car laptop mount - Christine's lap. The laptop ran AR for instant nav checks such as finding the fussgangerzone (pedestrian mall), ie the zentrum (centre), in each town we visited which you can't do with TomTom.

AR was also set to record the track so I could see where we had been. A big disappointment was that the track doesn't record geocoords and time so it can't be used to identify where we took our 47,000 photos - that's only 2 per km!

I have been on driving holidays in Europe before and I have always used paper maps. After using a satnav system I can't imagine using paper maps again.

Next month Christine and I are visting the USA and Canada for 2 months. We will drive from Orlando, Florida to Toronto through the inland mountains to see the Fall leaves and back down the east coast.

I have been reading everything on Laptop GPS World to decide what satnav software to buy.

I would like to get one that records a usable track and that doesn't have to be configured every day.

I know that MS ST is the same software as MS AR so it has the same limitations. I'm not sure yet whether Delorme SA does everything I want.

I would like to win a copy of Delorme SA 2009 so I can use it on our forthcoming trip.

I used S&T to meander up to AK and back to CA 3 years ago. I'm planning another trip for 2010 and would rather use Street Atlas. The new feature I'll put to use throughout the trip would be the GeoTagger which would allow me to tag locations with my digital photos.

Here's a thought ... Take your digital photos, and then take a photo screen shot of your SA to show you exactly where you were! Photos on digital cameras are numerically stored, so you could easily figure out which shot goes with which screen shot. Alternately, you could save a screen shot to your hard drive and number the file with the first (or last) number of the digital photo you took at that location. I *believe* you can also open Excel, and take a screen shot of the map and store it in a cell. Any Excel experts out there?

I'm sort of a "Gotta Have It NOW!" kind of guy.

Gosh, I'd have to take a BIG bottle of 409 to my truck so I wouldn't be embarrassed by what y'all see, but okay. I'll see what I can do about that.

Thought I would reply to take a chance at winning something and give a few details about my current build. My name is Deric and I currently live around the twin cities in MN USA. I found this site from being over at MP3Car.com. I am currently in the middle of my carPC install in my 2006 Mustang. I'm currently undecided on a GPS package mainly because I am a newbie when it comes to GPS but I'm no stranger to computers.

Hello,
Finally upgraded to my first ever laptop and started to research GPS software for it. I came across this site and have started to read quite a few of the posts, trying to determine what package to buy; and yes, I am still undecided. I have found this to be a very informative site with hundreds of pages of reviews and opinions. I travel to our customers' sites probably twice a month around the midwest, and am planning a driving trip in the fall to Utah/Arizona to check out the various National Parks. I would certainly be willing to share my experiences with the software package if I were to be deemed the lucky winner of the DeLorme Street Atlas 2009.

Good Luck Everyone

Holy cow what an awesome giveaway!

Well like i said before, i bought the MS one and it just plain sux, so I used the Delorme software I had lying around with the MS receiver. I would love to have the complete Delorme bundle!

We live in PA and love to drive over to the Amish and just see all they do! It is great to use a GPS since we get lost quite a bit

It would also be great for our upcoming trip to Williamsburg!!!

Mike

Oh and my wife is in management at a retail store, so she has to do a lot of travelling for meetings and such, so it would be a HUGE benefit to her!
