Does GPSGate work with bundled Garmin Mobile PC?

I have just installed the trial version of Franson GPSGate to allow the use of multiple aviation programs as virtual com ports on my bundled GPS 20x receiver.

I must exit the GPSGate before the Mobile PC can use the 20x. Can I set the GPSGate to allow my bundled version of Mobile PC to use the GPS 20x device?

I do not think Mobile PC will work in that situation. It needs to query the 20x for an ID and can't do that when GPS Gate is in the middle. Just in case you are wondering, you would have the same issues with a 10x package.

Thanks, Terry. I didn't see any way to make it work without stopping the GPSGate before starting Mobile PC. What a cool little program GPSGate is, though. With OziNavigator for aeronautical charts and WxWorks Online download for GPS located weather, I am able to have both applications running at the same time. It looks like the Express GPSGate is enough for me, unless there are some really other compelling reasons to go for the Standard version.

Yes it is an excellent, versatile program and works particularly well with Bluetooth GPS devices. Also one of the few programs that can interface directly with Garmin USB GPS devices (which don't come with serial drivers).

I thought I would pass along my experience with GPSGate and Mobile PC software.

I needed the ability to share the GPS signal between three different applications running on the same laptop - one of which was Garmin Mobile PC (with an unbundled GPS20x receiver). The Franson GPSGate made it all work.

I configured the needed virtual comm ports in GPSGate and always started it first, because it would consume the GPS signal. I then configured each application to look for a signal on a specific virtual comm port. It all worked and I couldn't be happier.

As a note, I tried several virtual port solutions including Garmin Spanner. The Franson GPSGate provided the best solution.

Alternatively, you could just enable the 'Start when Windows starts' feature in GpsGate, and then forget about it.

Thanks for the addtional start-up thought. In my final solution, I'll actually start GPSGate as a service (automatically start on start-up). I haven't tested the concept yet, but I think it will work okay.

I use GPSGate for nRoute, Streets & Trips, Mobile PC, Nat'l Geo TOPO, Google Earth and I can run them all at the same time! Not that I do, but I can. Great program!
