Re: Where to download Garmin nRoute
Terry thanks so much, sorry for being a nontechie. Since I was a good boy and registered my products, I do have the unlock code for CityNav in My Garmin, can I buy a copy from Ebay and use the code to unlock? What do I need to know about buying used copies?

Re: Where to download Garmin nRoute
If you have a copy on another computer, why would you want to buy another copy? It is moderately easy to transfer the map folders between computers and the registry is not a large issue. That is probably a safer approach than getting a copy of ebay and hoping you can use your code with it.
We can help you with the process of moving the files if that is what you need. You could use a network connection between them or a DVD burner and reader if necessary. I have a large selection of Garmin maps on this computer so may be able to let you know what the map folders are called. Which version do you have?

Re: Where to download Garmin nRoute
Terry, I am trying to do this at two places at once. I work in CA but my family is still in AZ. I finished repairing my laptop this weekend and now I am back in CA. I am trying to talk my wife through where to find the maps. Just incase she can not find the files is why I asked about Ebay. I will wait and see if she can find them on my main PC.

Re: Where to download Garmin nRoute
She can probably get part way by choosing the Start button and 'My Computer'. Then ask her to look for a folder called City Navigator North America in the Garmin folder on the C: drive. I know I could only talk my wife through that because I set up her computer and know where to look. I hope your wife is more computer savvy than mine and you are more patient than me!
But if she finds it, what are you expecting her to do with it?

Re: Where to download Garmin nRoute
If the default installation was used and the maps are City Navigator North America, there will be a folder C:\GARMIN on your main PC. It will have a folder in it that will start with the characters "CNNA". That's where the maps are.
That's the folder you would need to copy to the laptop so the laptop would have C:\GARMIN\CNNAxxx on it with all the map files in the CNNAxxxx folder. (The xxxx in the folder name will be related to the version number of your City Navigator North America maps. e.g. for City Navigator North America NT2009, it will be CNNANT2009.)
If it's even older and is City Select rather than City Navigator, the folder in the C:\GARMIN folder will be NACSxxxx. (E.g. City Select North America v5 will be C:\GARMIN\NACSv5.)
Hope that helps.

Re: Where to download Garmin nRoute
Thanks I will give her a call and have her look there. I used my main PC for my handheld units (ETREX, Legend) and thought I installed the maps there along with the laptop. I only used the GPS for vacations, so thats why I am not to up on all the stuff. Hard drive crashes are the complete PITS

Re: Where to download Garmin nRoute
Great news, I called my wife told her what yall said to do, she being the brains in the family yelled for my 13yo and told him what to do, and he responded "I moved the disks last week to safer place". So now I have all the disks and should be good when I drive back in this weekend. I am glad it happened though, this site is great and I will be back often!
