Alain,
That answer was for travelbug.

I don't see anything on the Garmin site about buying licenses for Mobile PC. I suggest you phone them. 1-866-429-9296

If you bought the version with the GPS20x then you have to use it with the GPS20x or give Garmin more money; YEAH it's like that.

This site does not support giving away a "new activation key" maybe someone out there in G-O-O-G-L-E land can help you.

Yes. You need the Franson GPSGate program. It will convert the proprietary Garmin protocol from the GPS20x into the standard NMEA protocol that Streets&Trips needs.

While I sympathize with your frustration that you didn't receive a knowledgeable answer from the technical support, realistically we cannot expect Garmin staff supporting Microsoft products .

I'm not sure if there is a place on the web where they sell just the activation code.
You may need to order the DVD (that's exactly what I did for the exact same reason).

it's working very well but it's no more expensive to by a other mouse GPS than buy GPSGate

Re: Review: Garmin Mobile PC

Marvin,
I was again working with my son on his cross Canada trip. One section was Lindsay ON to Cornwall but he didn't want to use the 401. Not knowing the area, I added Winchester and that looked good in MapSource (MG Can v4). But when I transferred it to MPC, the route was back on 401 with a jog to Winchester.

I got to try the Shape command. Basically you click on a location you would like the route to go through and click add (like adding a waypoint only simpler). the route then includes that point and, if you chose a good location. your route is where you want it.The advantage over adding a waypoint was you have a full screen to work with and can see immediately if your choice was successful.

As I am not entirely comfortable with the Edit command yet, this was a great solution.

Also of note;
You must disable your GPS input to view routes which don't include your present location.

Re: Review: Garmin Mobile PC

It would be nice if users of Garmin Mobile PC could just simply draw on the map an area to avoid, just like it is possible in Microsoft Streets and Trips. That way you could quickly block Hwy-401 from being used for routing. :-)

Yeah, Hwy-401 is good to avoid sometimes, if you wish to enjoy your drive.

That's how I feel about it.

I now have two GlobalSats by the way.
Garmin thinks their ways will raise more revenue, well their right - for GlobalSat

Free Translation…

Commentaries on software Garmin Movable PC and GPS 20X

I began testing Mobile Garmin PC, here is my first impressions. Note that I am a user of MS S&T for a number of years and my commentaries are done in reference with this one:

For:
  • Comparatively easy to use once one mastered the menu icons
  • Very good basis of data, very completes
  • Easy POI to download and to use
  • Graphic and representation clear and easy to follow on PC
  • Vocal guiding effective and complete
  • Ideal for urban, short navigation distance and daily itinerary
  • GPS 20X very effective and very sensitive

Against:
  • Planning of a long trip (more than 1000 km. and several days) difficult and complex
  • Change of road or choice of alternate way is complex
  • The POIs such as gasoline, hotels, camping…etc. do not appear on the map, they must be selected in the data basis
  • Obligation to build itself a list of favourite ones to establish a long itinerary with multiple stops
  • Difficult to establish a road from a point of departure far away of our current position.

Faux:
Le paramètre n'était pas activé, ça fonctionne

False: It was not activated, it's working
