Re: Review: Garmin Mobile PC
Hi jimmy_m,
 to Laptop GPS World.
We don't have the right to distribute Garmin software, so I'm afraid the uploading idea would not work. But Garmin makes available at it's website the application file for download. The only file(s) it doesn't contain, as far as I know, is the map data; that you would have to copy from your existing installation.
Here's the link to Garmin's download page: Garmin Mobile PC Software Update Collection

Re: Review: Garmin Mobile PC
Thanks for your reply but that is just an update. It requires you to have a previous version installed.

Hi jimmy_m,
Do you have it installed on an existing PC? If so, there might be a way to get it over to the UMPC.

Re: Review: Garmin Mobile PC
I'm afraid, since you sold the laptop with the software installed, you would need to buy a new copy of the software for yourself again.

Re: Review: Garmin Mobile PC
Hi, all.
I found how solve this problem!
Create Garmin Mobile XT structure on the flesh. Then export selected map to flesh.
After that copy exported map from flesh drive to Garmin Mobile PC directory.

10% off alright but $28 least cost shipping to Canada (free delivery in the US) seems a bit much for a DVD in the mail.
Marvin, I recall you mentioning you got your copy from Tigerdirect.ca but I can't find it on their web site - do you have a URL for it?

Re: Review: Garmin Mobile PC
Laurie, I originally ordered my copy from Tiger... only because they were the very first ones advertising availability of the product. Everyone else stated on their site that the product was not yet in stock. Unfortunately, Tiger... didn't have it in stock either. I phoned them one week later, and since they still didn't have it in stock, I cancelled my order with them, and ordered it from Semsons instead. I agree that for us in Canada it may be less expensive to order it from the retailers linked in the above post by Ken in Regina.

Re: Review: Garmin Mobile PC
Marvin/Ken, I've checked the Canadian sources but they do no seem to offer the software only (only with the receiver). Am I missing it somewhere?
Thanx..

Re: Review: Garmin Mobile PC
I have a question. Is it possible to customize look of the navigation page? It has map and some tabs at the bottom, which I found useless. I'd love to change them for different ones.
I would keep speed, and maybe compass, but time of my arrival and when next turn is I never use. I can see at the top of the screen how far is next turn, I don't need my nav system to tell me that I'll drive next mile for 60 seconds. Its obvious.
I'd rather have distance to my final destination and perhaps elevation or miles traveled so far. Is there an way to customize those?
PS. Little off topic. Will anyone review here PC Miler 430 GPS by ALK? I know it is stand alone unit, but... I'd like to see some review. Maybe someone will direct me to another place? Thx.
