Re: Garmin nRoute versus Garmin Mobile PC
thought just occurred to me - since at the moment I intend to continue using nroute, a touch screen will not be as beneficial right?

Re: Garmin nRoute versus Garmin Mobile PC
are you using a pc?
a touch screen is great, i use nroute, and while its not essential a touch screen is good if you can just push the Shhhh! button or whatever.
makes and zoom tweaks easy as too

Re: Garmin nRoute versus Garmin Mobile PC
nroute doesn't support a touchscreen interface but, as woofnstuff says, the touchscreen will still have some value. Also, if you plan to use the carputer for playing music and doing other things, the touchscreen will be useful for operating that stuff.

Re: Garmin nRoute versus Garmin Mobile PC
Doing a little poking around and it looks like Microsoft is planning to build a touchscreen interface right into Windows 7.

Re: Garmin nRoute versus Garmin Mobile PC
the interface i have works just fine
you tap the screen and the mouse is there and clicks
tap and hold gets a right click
I wouldnt like my chances with photoshop but well thats not the targeted use of the computer

Which interface do you have? (Sorry if you've already mentioned it.)

Re: Garmin nRoute versus Garmin Mobile PC
windows XP with the generic touch screen drivers
and i use roadrunner as my GUI front end on top of that, for music and gps etc, so its nice and easy to see and use in the car.. and safer
this is what i have at the moment, im still working out the finer points of how i want it set up, but that the start screen.

Re: Garmin nRoute versus Garmin Mobile PC
Sweet! That almost makes me want to start building now, but I want to squeeze the last few days of golf and mountain biking out of the season. Perhaps I'll just order a touchscreen and connect it to one of my desktop systems to start playing with the interface. hmmmm....

Re: Garmin nRoute versus Garmin Mobile PC
now you have spoilt everything guys! - Ken mentions golf and I havnt had a round in 6 weeks and as he says the touch screen functionality that woofnstuff describes also makes we want to order one now. Still have 4 weeks away so will have to wait on both counts...

Re: Garmin nRoute versus Garmin Mobile PC
I've had five rounds in the past week and 70 so far this year. I will be well short of the 100 I was aiming for this year but I've done okay.
I'm having difficulty finding a source for a nice 7" or 8" touchscreen that will ship via Postal Service. So far the sources I've looked at either ship only UPS (mini-box) or I cannot find the shipping information at all (mp3car). Some more digging is in order.

Re: Garmin nRoute versus Garmin Mobile PC
Simple - come over to Australia for a holiday, play on 5 of the best couses in the world (in melbourne), and pick up the monitor I will order for you - btw I average 150 round per year

Re: Garmin nRoute versus Garmin Mobile PC
150 rounds a year? Wow!! My hat's off to you.
You obviously get more than six months a year without snow on the ground. Your offer is appealing ... distressingly so. Now if I could just peel my wife away from our daughter's brand new twins ... can barely get her to agree to a trip to the movie theatre these days. Good thing the kids only live five minutes away so she comes home at night or I would never see her.
If you had a spare room I could just move down there, meself .... 150 rounds a year ... Wow!
