Ummmm... I thought that's what I said. It's certainly what I tried to say. Sorry if I confused the issue even more. I was just havin' a little fun.
By the way, you don't necessarily have to remove the maps that come with Mobile PC to use other maps. Mobile PC uses three map files:
gmapbmap.img - is the world basemap.
gmapprom.img - this is the pre-compiled detail maps that come with Mobile PC. In the case of the current product, this file is the City Navigator North America NT2009 detail maps.
Those are the two map files that come with either version of Mobile PC right now. You would never want to remove the basemap because it provides a lot of basic info that won't be included in most detail maps. The only reason you would remove
gmapprom.img is if you are acquiring a similarly named map file from some other device that has somehow been unlocked.
The third file is
gmapsupp.img. This file does not come with Mobile PC. It is the file format that MapSource creates when it is compiling and transferring detail maps to a Garmin device. This is also the file format that is produced by people who are creating third-party maps for sale or for free use. You can put this in place any time you want, as long as it contains map details from products that are not locked, and it won't affect the maps that came with Mobile PC. You just have to enable it in Mobile PC and disable any other detail maps that cover the same area.
If you are adding maps to give coverage in Great Britain and/or Europe there is no conflict in coverage with City Navigator North America so you don't have to do anything to add and use non-North American coverage, as long as it's not locked. And as long as it's not named
gmapprom.img.
