Right now I seem to have to use the serial cable to get the GPSMap 76CSx to output to the laptop to use nRoute. It would be handy if I could use the USB cable instead, as the GPSMap 76CSx will run off USB power instead of using up the batteries. Also, my newer laptop doesn't have a serial port. I realise I could use a Serial to USB adaptor but that's one more thing to have problems with.
Is there a thread about the patch here somewhere? If not, it probably deserves it's own thread so the explanation will be easier to find (if you don't mind).

Whoops! My bad! I just went back and reread the first few posts (first 15 or so...) in this thread (I had read them a few months ago but the content obviously slipped my mind).
So, in a nut shell, ProITM's patch allows the use of Garmin Mobile PC (software only version) with certain Garmin receivers Garmin had chosen to block (for some reason known only to themselves).
Sound right to you?

Re: Garmin Mobile PC and Garmin USB GPS
Thank you ProITM. The patch works beautiful.
I'm using a Nuvi 205 and GMPC 5.00.60 software only.

Re: Garmin Mobile PC and Garmin USB GPS
Just an update, I now have my Garmin GPS10x and my Garmin eTrex Legend HCx working great with ProITM's patched version of 5.00.60.
Actually, I got the GPS10x working with the unpatched version but I still have to use the patched version for the eTrex.
Thanks ProITM for the contribution.

Re: Garmin Mobile PC and Garmin USB GPS
Your welcome.
My patched version works with:
eTrex series
60 series
76 series
Nuvi, only the models that send position data through USB (hidden menu)
Maybe others not tested yet.

Re: Garmin Mobile PC and Garmin USB GPS
Can someone tell me how to apply the patch by ProITM?
Thanks,
Dave.

Re: Garmin Mobile PC and Garmin USB GPS
You don't apply a patch. What you download is the complete program executable. Just put it into the same directory as the Garmin Mobile PC executable (should be called "Que.exe" and should be in the "C:\Program Files\Garmin\GarminMobilePC" folder) but retain the "ProITM.exe" name on the executable.
I have two shortcuts on my desktop: one for the Garmin original and one for the ProITM executable.
Make sure you download the one that matches the version of Mobile PC that you have installed. I think that matters.

Re: Garmin Mobile PC and Garmin USB GPS
Thanks Ken,
I renamed the file to que.exe and replaced the original (after making a copy of course) and it's now accepting my vista hcx.
Just wondering, since it seems to be working, why I would keep both files in the same folder?
Thanks,
Dave.

Re: Garmin Mobile PC and Garmin USB GPS
I guess I'm a purist. I want the original around so if I ever have any functional problems I can always run it as a comparison to be sure it's not something in the patched version. This also applies to tech support. I would never call or email Garmin tech support with an issue without first verifying that the problem exists in their original unpatched code.
Similarly, when I'm responding to someone on here I always check things on the genuine Garmin version for my response.
Also, when you upgrade to a new version it's going to clobber your patched version (Que.exe). In my case it will upgrade the original Garmin file and leave my ProITM executable untouched.

Re: Garmin Mobile PC and Garmin USB GPS
Good day all,
I have followed this thread from the start and I now have the following problem:
What I got......
Laptop running XP
I have Mapsource 6.13.7
I have a Garmin 276C (USB)
Then I downloaded MobilePC V5.00.60g
Used keyg 1.5 and got the MobilePC working fine without my 276C connected.
Now, when ever I connect my 276C it immediately bombs out MobilePC (entire app GUI vanishes) leaving this Windows style Error window Garmin Mobile PC in the window identifier:
ERROR: Assert failed at iop_inst.c: 2368 in IOP main with error 0
Also shows "Transfer Complete" on the GPSr but it has lost all sats and starts aquiring again.
I have downloaded the ProITM.exe and running that I get the same problem?
Please any help with this?
CRV.

My BAD
I was given the gen to determine the origion of the error as it gave me the same problem using the trial version and I did not want to buy another GPS just to evaluate the package. Already have two GARMIN units, a serial only (GPS12MAP) and the 276C.
I want to use the MobPC in my vehicle (CarPC) when driving around town and I use my 276C when riding my bike around the bush. So would like to use the 276C as GPSr in both instances as I have many Garmin products loaded on it with Mapsource and also want the routes and tracks shared between the two travel platforms.
If I'm still allowed..................
