I feel like a dog chasing it's tail.
GPS Gate doesn't work, Xport bluescreens, and nobody else knows of any other port splitters. I guess it's a waiting game. |

What I found in my brief trial use with GMPC, unlike with nRoute, you just can't hit the space bar to get voice prompts. You have to wait until you get 350 metres or so before the voice prompts show up and then you have to hit the F1 key. I find that to be too distracting and enough to cause one to be a traffic hazard on the road. There are a few other nuiances too like on approaching turns, the car is not visible.

Being a NEW Bee also to GPS ... I think this may all be in what your use to.
I find Garmin Mobile PC very easy to use because I never used another. Hitting the F1 is as simple as space bar for me. I also have it set to zoom to the next turn, which it does very well about .5 miles before the turn.. at which point if you can't see which way to turn in the upper left corner (I got a 15 inch screen so no problem there..just a glance tells me what to do.) you can easily hit F1 to hear her talk again. I will agree audible is low... and will be buying a powered speaker to hook up to the laptop for this reason. Probably the $10.0 brand at walmart which is powered by USB.. another find from this site.. thanks again guys.. I guess everyone has different views.. reasons why they have different programs. I love my GMPC.. it's way cool...

Except with the F1 key, you can't easily hit it by feel when driving and can't adjust the prompt level unlike with nRoute.

I am heading to San Juan Puerto Rico in a week for a couple of weeks and I need a GPS program that will do street and address level searches and routes. I noticed on another post that the Garmin Mobile PC is supposed to do that. If you have it, can you check it out and see if it does in fact allow the address and street level searches in Puerto Rico. I'd sure hate to find out after I buy it that it doesn't. I've been a DeLorme Street Atlas user for years so this is a step out for me since they don't cover PR>
Thanks |

Can you suggest an address you would like us to look up in Puerto Rico. The street maps look ok with numbers and everything, however unless I know what to look for, I can't tell.

OK, please try 7012 Isle Verde, Carolina, PR. That should show up as the Marriott.

I also did the search in google maps for 7012 Bosa De Cangrejos Av, Carolina, PR and it went right to the hotel. So I don't know if there is a street there with 2 different names or what.
