Ken,
I believe you hit the nail on the head. I just went back to my main computer where I had done the testing and it looks like I had not checked the box in MapSource. Thanks! Terry |

Terry,
You gave me the clues with your complete testing and reporting. The fact that it worked on one computer but not the other. The fact that the bad routing with MGCanada looked the same as routing with only the basemap. That adds up to the probability that it was only routing with the basemap. That makes the problem easy to figure out. Only one way it can happen when the detail maps compile and transfer successfully. Without your complete testing scenarios and detailed reporting of the results, it would have taken a lot more back and forth to get to the cause. Take a bow. ...ken... |

I confirmed (at 2:30 this morning) that was indeed the problem! One other thing I noted:
When lassoing a large area with small map segments, check that you got all the sections you want by zooming in. The first try routed me on the ferry to Powell River because I had missed a small segment of Vancouver when transferring the maps. Terry |

I have just downloaded GMPC. I have both MGC 4 and CN 2009. In both cases, it seemed like I transferred the maps onto GMPC, however, nothing shows up. Initially, I had the default Kansas map, now I don't have anything. My max zoom is only 1200 km.
Any ideas what's going on? |

I'm operating on the assumption that you are working with a complete installation of Mobile PC, including the detailed maps it comes with. If that is not the case, eg. if you have installed the downloadable update as a trial version, ignore the following and tell me so I can direct you accordingly.
Again, the following is only relevant if you have a full working installation of the complete Mobile PC package, not the trial version. At the bottom of the Mobile PC screen, - click on the TOOLS button - click on the Manage my Data icon - click on the Map Sets icon ...-What do you see listed there? ......-You should see something like "WW Autoroute DEM Basemap NR", "Detailled Maps", and "Built-in Maps". ......- Please list what you see. - Click on each of those items and tells us what you see. For instance, when you click on the "Built-in Maps" you should see a screen with "City Navigator North America NT 2009" at the top. - When you're done checking that and back at the screen with the list of Mapsets, down at the bottom click on the MapSource button. ... - You should see a list of the detailled mapsets with checkboxes beside them. Which ones are checked? As a general rule, it looks like when you have multiple mapsets installed the "top" one ... the one you will actually see ... will be the built-in mapset, in this case City Navigator North America NT2009. In general, you will need to uncheck all of the detailled mapsets except the one you want to see. There are exceptions. ...ken... |

-Hi, I downloaded directly from Garmin's site as a trial version (update). Not sure where to download a different version?
When i go and look at the mapset, I initially installed NT 2009 and then I went and installed a few other ones since it was not showing anywhere, not even in the mapsets. The two map sets including MG 4 and Topo showed up, only as being there but didn't show up any where else. -What is also odd is that if I click on cities, it doesn't show up, but somewhere along, I was playing with it, I was able select my street address only, but when trying to look at it, it wouldn't show. Bear in mind, this is all withOUT any GPS connected. I even tried to do simulation and it wouldn't work. -Deleting the mapsets, didn't actually delete anything. I exited and went back and the deleted map names showed up in mapsets. When trying to browse (no mapset present based on visual), GMPC crashed with the following error message: error assert failed at atl_conv timec:597 in GMPC with error 0. Hmm. why no carriage returns when writing post here? I see, forum doesnt like firefox! Last edited by Newbee; June 25th, 2008 at 06:10 PM. Okay, you didn't say so directly but I'm guessing you don't have a full installation of Mobile PC and instead, you are running the downloadable update as a free trial. If that is the case, the first thing you need is a basemap. I have no idea what sort of behaviour you will see in Mobile PC without a basemap. The only thing I can predict is that it will be unpredictable and probably not consistent.
If you look in the folder that Mobile PC installed itself into, you might see as many as three relevant map files. The installation folder will be ..\GarminMobilePC. The rest of the path will depend on where you told it to install itself. Look in the folder that has the program files and you might see files with any of the following names: gmapbmap.img -- the basemap gmapprom.img -- the built-in maps gmapsupp.img -- the detailed maps you have compiled and transfered from Mapsource. If there is no basemap, you can get one for testing from here. Just unzip it and put the basemap (gmapbmap.img) in the GarminMobilePC folder. Ignore the detailed map file in the Zip. It's a topo map of Portland, OR, and won't be of any use to you in your testing. When you compile and transfer some detailed maps from Mapsource for testing, do not include any map segments from CN 2009. They are locked and there's no way for you to unlock them in that trial version of Mobile PC. Only include segments from Metroguide Canada because it's not locked ... easiest is to just grab all of Canada and transfer it for your testing. If there is already a gmapsupp.img file in the GarminMobilePC folder you can cheerfully ignore it. When you compile and transfer a new one with only Metroguide Canada details in it, the new one will overwrite the old one. I hope this helps. ...ken... |

Sorry, I edited my post to include the fact it it's an update/trial. Looks like your replied while I was editing. You're correct. No basemap at all or gmapprom.img file either. Thanks, for your input. I will see how it goes.

Ok, I am able to now see the Kansas area listings (only)but not the maps, like initially. My mapsource mapsets are still there. Can't access them, they are all unlocked. Can't browse the default mapset. Same error message shows up when trying to browse.
ERROR: Assert failed at utl_cnv_time.c : 597 in Garmin Mobile PC with error 0 I may try to download onto my other PC, if that doesn't work, then I will give up. Not going to buy something that doesn't work right in trial mode. Edit: Not sure why, but it works now. Must've known I was venting here. lol Ok, so what I did was manually change the location of the GPS, turning it off or disabling it of course. I was able to see the entire map of Kansas and zoomed out until I seen the entire base map of Canada. I then selected a nearby city. I managed to get it to crash though when I selected or forced it to speak. Two errors now, new one is WARNING: Assert failed at atm_gdnc.c : 1411 in Garmin Mobile PC with error 0 Does anyone know what the licensing restrictions are with this when attaching a non Garmin GPS to it? Can you install it on more than one PC or do you need additional product ID? BTW, are we sure this is not a beta version? Last edited by Newbee; June 25th, 2008 at 07:16 PM. Reason: New Info |

Check the thread on Registering Mobile PC. There is a lot of discussion about that issue in it.
EDIT: Also check the thread about activation limits. ...ken... Last edited by Ken in Regina; June 25th, 2008 at 07:15 PM. |
