Just got off the phone with Garmin. They updated their site 2 days ago. I think they stopped the multiple installs at that time. I couldn't talk them out of a new key and there is no place on line to order one. You must order the DVD!

Yes, but certainly as a licensed owner of the software you should have the right to install it on your new PC (since you will no longer be using it on your old one).
As videonerd says:

Marvin,
While I agree, remember the problems Ken had when he wanted to move it from one PC to another. It is simpler not to delete the key than to convince Garmin that you just want to reinstall it. I don't think they have the procedures in place to deactivate and reactivate a key. Terry |

Yes, no doubt about that. But I'm just thinking about you new HP tx2000 series. What are you going to do?

Marvin,
Let's see. My choices are; 1. Order another copy of Mobile PC software. 2. Wait 6 months until the license can be reused. 3. Use it without a GPS (the maps show up ok). 4. Whine at Garmin until they relent and give me another key 5. Delete it and ignore it altogether on that PC. I haven't decided yet. I can't even get MG Can v4 to load. The tablet is great! Mapping on it is another issue altogether. Terry |

I'd go with # 4.
I was in the same situation with Microsoft Streets and Trips 2008 - I called MSFT, and it took no more than a minute for them to give me additional activation. The same story with ALK CoPilot Laptop 11. A minute or two on the phone with ALK resulted in additional activation. Hard drives do crash, people do buy new laptops, etc. You do have a valid reason for needing to install Garmin Mobile PC on your new HP laptop, Terry.

Marvin,
A reasonable suggestion which I have tried once already without success. I'm not sure I want to find out if they suddenly are able to deactivate an existing key as I have it runnning on my UMPC (important), main PC (handy), laptop (not using) and another PC. I hardly qualify as a case for consideration. I will pursue it further once I sort out MG Can on the tablet. Terry |

Thanks for the hints about toshiba bluetooth stack (CUSTOM Ccnnection)
to assign the COM port to a lower number. On my oqo, Mobile pc NEVER would connect to com port 40 .(or for a matter of fact Com 6 pick I picked) Basically when it went searching and never found i had to set the serial device to Comm 6. and then it worked fine. Thanks for the hints. |
