Thanks for pointing out the update. I tried it on my XP Home computer and map redraw speed is glacial. I'll try it on the Vista laptop as soon as it is free.

On second thought, 6.14.1 is just too slow. I think I will stay at 6.13.7.

The only improvements I saw are the roads actually have width instead of being just lines.

Sorry!

I braved it and installed it on my HP tablet running Vista Home Premium SP1. This was an upgrade from 6.13.7. It took about 3 minutes and I experienced no difficulties.

Still not fast on a redraw but this one comes in blurry and then sharp. This is a smaller screen (1280x800) so redraw is acceptable.

Jucabras, when are you seeing that message? Is it during the install or when you try to use MapSource?

I double click on desktop icon , its starts running and the only thing its appears is that messaje, not opening MapSource.
Donīt understand whatīs happening. My tablep PC itīs a Pavilion tx 1000 (AMD Turion 64 x 2 Mobile Technology TL 50 1.6 Ghz-1.6 Gb RAM) ...looking forward Iīve noticed some guys have it runnig from the very fisrt...some say itīs too heavy and with few tips (color and border line on routes) and not so few have the problem as mine:doesnīt start .
The previous versión was excelent...the only thing was for getting working on Vista must be setted as Administratator.

Hope I found something to explain and make it work,or else still continue on earlier version.

Thanks Jucabras

I don't know what the 'Set as Administrator' comment is related to. I ran 6.13.7 on my Vista laptop with no problems relating to administrator. Maybe my Vista is set up different from yours.

did you make sure the icon on your desktop for 6.14.1 is actually pointing to the MapSource executable?

Hi...Iīll explain looking at your image:if you go to "advanced" at the down-right corner and click on it, it lets you configure the excecutable file to have "administrator attributtes" in Windows Vista.(The same if you right click on cubic Mapsource icon).Iīve had had to do that because when I wanted to add 3rd.Party developped maps or Detailed & routable maps made for my region (Uruguay and Argentina)(Brasil also)which makes and writes a gmapsupp.img file on Garmin PC directory , Vista dinīt allow me to do it.With that change....it works.

The second...again...right clicking on the mapsource icon>open file location...there was the excecutable mapsource file.Iīve checked everithing...but worldwide Iīve read too many missworking of this new version.

My working conditions are a HP Pavilion tx 1000 tablet PC AMD Turion 64 x 2 1.6 Ghz 1 Gb RAM , OS Windows Vista Home Premium and Garmin Mobile PC V 5.00.30 (last update) with Garmin GPS 20x sensor.Off course...maintaining V. 6.13.7 mapsource version.

Maybe the initial report " Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" means something 4 the "Gaarmin Team"...!!!...Iīll wait till further notices and finally report to Garmin Support.

Many thanks for your reply
Best wishes from Jucabras

Sorry, I have never dealt with third party maps and Vista so I can't see the connection. Ken might have some experience in that area.

Hi Terry,

Vista is like XP Pro plus some Linux stuff, sort of. It is much more particular about permissions than any previous version of Windows.

XP Home and earlier versions of Windows and NT generally allow a program to run with whatever permissions the user has. So if you are running yourself as an Administrator - which is what most of us do by default (and the vast majority without even knowing it) - anything we run will run with administrator priviledges. The program will be allowed to do anything with files and directories that we could do ourselves using the Windows Explorer.

Vista makes a distinction between what permissions a program has versus the permissions that the logged in user has. There are some things a program might need to do that Vista will object to, even though you as the user who ran the program has sufficient priviledges to do it. In order to get around this you need to give the program the same priviledges you have. So you would use the Vista feature to run the program as Administrator. In other words, you give the program the same admin privs that you have.

Jucabras just described a couple of ways you can do that. In some cases you have to go right back to the beginning. You have to give the SETUP.EXE program admin privs by running it as Administrator. If you don't, it doesn't matter what you do to the program after it's installed. Vista will still block it if it tries to do some things. In other cases you can install the program normally but you need to run the program as Administrator to stop Vista from blocking some functions or stopping it from running at all.

Ken,
I have certainly heard that Vista can be a problem with Permissions. I just haven't experienced it.I have MapSource, nRoute and Mobile PC and updated my Nuvi and maps with no issues relating to permissions.

I thought you might have some information specific to 3rd party Garmin maps that might apply.
Terry
