You mean if someone else can see your GPS Location? For example if your wife can see where exactly you are (if you carry your phone on you)?

If you are thinking of adding to your phone GPS navigation functionality, then I suspect it may not be possible. Your phone uses a proprietary operating system. There may not be any compatible GPS navigation software available on the market (unless your phone provider offers a GPS navigation service subscription of some kind).

If it were a PocketPC PDA phone, running a Windows Mobile operating system, then it would be just a matter of you selecting from a variety of PPC GPS navigation software and buying for example a Bluetooth connected GPS receiver.

Yes, it's possible. It may cost you a bit, though. You may need to buy a new phone and a subscription plan for such service.

If you wish to do the same on laptops, there is a ready made solution: ALK CoPilot Live Laptop 10.

Any cellphone can be "tracked" to a certain degree. When a cellphone is on it is constantly communicating with nearby cell towers and telling the towers that it is in their broadcast area. That is how the tower knows to send you a signal. The towers also, of course, broadcast their location to the cellphone. By triangulating on these towers you can get an approximate location without any GPS equipment. In a tower-rich environment, such as a city, this can actually pinpoint you to a block or so. In a rural area you might just get a 3 mile circle. This is how the new location program works with Google maps and my iPhone. In New York it can place me withing one or tow blocks. At my home, which is pretty rural, the best it can do is withing a couple of miles. 911 calls can also be tracked this way.

I would think that one should be a bit carefull with tracking, especially if there's a chance the tracking ability will be abused. If for instance, one is having marital difficulties and uses the tracking to keep track of a spouses comings and goings, it seems to me that there is a chance that tracking might be interpreted as stalking.
I know that this seems far fetched, but it's something that should be kept in mind. Whatever goes on electronically leaves a permanent record somewhere.

In addition, if you have tracking devices on, say your company vehicles, because hacking systems like these seems to be common, it might be difficult to prevent badguys from finding out where your semi loaded with state of the art electronics is parked while the driver has a nap or goes into a truckstop for a quick shower.

EDH:
It is agaist the law to be used for that purpose. I only want it to track my cars if the are hijacked or stolen, but I don't want a third party to be the monitor, I want to do it myself.
I live in the nations number 1 crime city in the nation (Memphis) and I'm in the mode to try it for protection only.
But, as I said if you get caught tracking someone without their permission, you are breaking the law.
