Hopefully Dash will sell many units, since the units act also as speed sensors for the traffic service. But I just wonder if this start up company is able to sell enough units fast to make the traffic service worth the approximately $10/month.

Nevertheless, this is an interesting concept. Perhaps if mobile phones were used as speed sensors, the reliability and coverage of the traffic service would be much greater.

Has anyone noticed that MSN states that if the antenna is unplugged for more then a few days, it will take "HOURS" to get information restored again, such as movie times, weather, etc? Therefore, someone that doesn't plug their GPS in cannot use the features of MSN, so why use it? I can't even contact MSN to ask.

Phil: This is the first that I've heard of this. The MSN receiver contains a battery, and I assume that its purpose is to maintain data in memory whenever the receiver is without power, but I don't think I've heard that it only lasts for days.

However, now that you've brought this up, I'll see what I can find out...!

I haven't used my MSN Direct receiver in several weeks. I just plugged it in to one of my laptops now, mainly to check if more new highways in my area have traffic flow data now. I experienced no problem getting it to work. It might have taken a bit longer to show traffic data on the map of my Microsoft Streets and Trips - several minutes - but it worked.

However, I do recall reading a user feedback, that after a certain time of not usage, one needs to reactivate the MSN Direct receiver online again. I'm not sure if that's really the case, though.
