![]() Scottish Ambulance Service invested £5 million (almost $10 million) to equip all of its 460 ambulances with GPS navigation system, but the medics are being instructed to keep on using their map books like they always have! The story was published by SundayMail.co.uk - Ambulance crews told to use maps rather than £5m satnavs One paramedic said: "The satnav gets you to an address eventually but takes you round the houses and doesn't take into account things like roadworks. A lot of the time you are better using a street map." ![]() While it may be true that a software program may not necessarily suggest the best route, a good program should be able to let the user locate an address faster than a map book. A good GPS navigation software program should also give the user a good overview map (2D / north-up), so even if the ambulance crew decides not to use the routing feature, they should still benefit by being able to see the destination, and their own location, on the moving map. To me it just sounds like they spent a lot of money on the wrong product. |
