Hello All

This is my first post.

I just ordered a new Dell Laptop with Mobile PC & GPS 20x.
This is my first laptop and first GPS unit.

In the weeks to come am sure there will be many questions
and hopefully you will be able to help me in the learning curve.

My old desktop system is still running Win98-2, this new
gadget will come with Vista SP1 Home Premium.
Two new toys to keep me busy in retirement.
My wife told me it was time for a new system and to make sure
that i ordered every thing that i needed (that i wanted) the
first time and not keep going back and ordering more stuff.
SO I DID !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We retired two years ago to Yuma, Az from S. Lake Tahoe, Ca.
No more snow

Looking forward to being an active member of this forum.

Yes i did order the laptop from Dell. The PC-10 and 20X are
options that you can order with a new Dell laptop.
Can't hardly wait until is gets here !!!!!!!!!
Went out yesterday and bought two books on Vista.
"Windows Vista for Seniors" & "Windows Vista for Dummies"
The Seniors book has lots of pictures and is easy to follow.
Dummies is more detailed.

I just checked Dell website, and indeed they do sell Garmin Mobile PC. They have both, the software-only version, and also the bundle with USB GPS20x receiver. However, I had to use the search feature to actually find Garmin Mobile PC.

I tested the order process, hoping that Dell website will automatically suggest me to purchase Garmin Mobile PC as an accessory to a new laptop, but instead it offered only a two year old version of ALK CoPilot 9 GPS navigation package. They likely want to sell the old stock, before they start offering Garmin Mobile PC as an accessory with the purchase of new laptop PCs.

How did you find out about the option to buy Garmin Mobile PC? Did Dell suggested it to you? Did you order on-line?

What i ordered was a new model Inspiron 1720 laptop with Vista home premium.
The Mobile PC option came up as an add on that could be ordered with the pc.
Item number: A1475169 @ $100.
That was the only type of nav package that was offered.
Hope that helps.
