Did you try networking the netbook with the computer you have that is DVD equipped. Then share the DVD drive and load it from there.

Re: Install iGuidance 3 to netbook

I can't remember exactly but with version 3, don't you just copy the folder containing the Map and Scansoft folder to your hard drive. I think it had to be in a folder called iNav iGuidance on your hard drive. Possibly you have that folder already on the DVD or flash drive and you can copy the whole thing.I really can't remember how the program found it though.

Re: Install iGuidance 3 to netbook

You are correct. iNav v3 is hardwired to look for a local DVD drive for the map generation function.

One solution is to generate the maps to another computer as you probably have already done. Then copy the data from the Maps folder created in the iNav iGuidance folder. Place that data on your netbook where iNav created a similar Maps folder.

A better long term solution is to buy a USB DVD drive for your netbook. Then you can easily install anything you want. And after that, get the latest version of iGuidance (2009). Some of these problems have been resolved and the map data is much better.

Not to mention that installing a two year old version of iGuidance on a fine brand new netbook like yours should really be punishable by law.

Re: Install iGuidance 3 to netbook

hmmm Perhaps but after reading your fine forums why do I need the activation headaches? I don't use this for work just casual use.It has worked well and I was considering upgrading until LOL I read all the hassle of the new 09 version. Why do companies do this? I immediately started looking for another provider.

Re: Install iGuidance 3 to netbook

Actually, iNav has done a better job of dealing with the hassle you speak of than most of the other mapping products I use. It allows running the product on 2 devices and offers a variety of ways to transfer that activation between devices (and they work).

Where I live, the mapping data has been so bad that updating was the only option. Most of the products (using Navteq data) have finally caught up to what MapSource and S&T had 4 years ago (before they went to Navteq).

I am not a fan of iGuidance but that is more to do with other features that interest me and considerable previous experience with other products. Their display on small screen devices such as my 7" ASUS r2h UMPC was only matched recently by Garmin Mobile PC.

Re: Install iGuidance 3 to netbook

Hey Terry
So BC huh? I live in Gig Harbor WA about 60 mi below Seattle and I do Like Inav. After using Mapopolis for pda and S&T I liked the way it worked on my pda and Sony lap.I don't know if I saw it here or GPS Passion but the comments weren't very flattering about Inav and getting it activated. If you think it's ok I may consider it.What about ST I haven't used it for years?Thx for your help btw

Re: Install iGuidance 3 to netbook

Rand,
I have been to Gig Harbor but not recently.

IGuidance;
I had no trouble with activation of version 4 or 2009.
Voice guidance with street name pronunciation is included.
Display on small screen devices is excellent.
Version 2009 no longer comes with support for PDAs included. I think that is an extra cost item. I already had Garmin XT so haven't looked at it.
Be aware that you can no longer break the map into segments. Use with a PDA requires at least a 2gig sd or cf card for storage.
I have not had an opportunity to try its routing capabilities yet.

S&T
Not as suitable for my UMPC but should be fine at 10"
major interface and display changes from what I used to see.
60 day trial download so check it out. Or pop over to Microsoft headquarters and see if you can wangle a copy!

Rand, it could have been at GPS Passion forum. I read the discussions there, too, but they were mostly on the topic of the not yet released PDA version of iGuidance 2009.
