Help! Can't Activate iGuidance
Anyone heard of the error "cannot read from hard drive" when trying to activate over the web?

Which version? Is it working fully already as a trial?

Re: Help! Can't Activate iGuidance
It's iGuidance 2009 and it won't do a thing...won't launch, won't activate, won't work as a "trial"-nada

Re: Help! Can't Activate iGuidance
Sounds like a bad installation. It happens (to almost everything, not just iGuidance). Perhaps you should uninstall and reinstall, just to be sure.

Unistalled/reinstalled a couple of times now....nothing. I'm running this on XP. Works fine on Vista, activates fine, but not XP on dual boot machine.

Re: Help! Can't Activate iGuidance
I have 2009 on 2 separate devices, one a UMPC running XP Tablet and the other a HP tablet running Vista Home Premium. I had no trouble installing or activating it on either machine. Are you trying to use a common map install or something out of the ordinary?

Re: Help! Can't Activate iGuidance
I will add that iGuidance won't start on a regular basis on the UMPC but the error message is 'Unable to install Windows Service.' A repair installation will usually resolve it as if a file is getting corrupted by another program.

I only activated iGuidance 2009 once, and that was a long ago now, so I don't recall the process that well. But if I recall correctly, if users experience an issue with the default online activation, there I think is also another way to activate the software, isn't there? Explore the other option, if the first option fails.

Re: Help! Can't Activate iGuidance
Nope...no "special installation", nothing wrong with starting the Windows service. Program won't launch and Activation Manager has error (whichever method is attempted) "can't read hard drive"

Scan your HD to check for errors.. nail that down first.

Re: Help! Can't Activate iGuidance
It's installed on a partitioned drive. It seems like for some reason the software doesn't like the partition software-maybe? MS Streets and Trips is also installed on the same partition and works fine.

Re: Help! Can't Activate iGuidance
The desktop icon is hardwired to look at a specific place on the main drive. Right click it and change the location under Properties to point to your file location.

Perhaps iGuidance doesn't like to be installed on a drive other than C:\. Is it installed to C:\ drive? If not, can you install it there? Is the map folder in C:\, not just the program files?

Re: Help! Can't Activate iGuidance
It is actually installed on C:\...I have a feeling it doesn't like Boot Camp. Looks like I'll have to return it
