How to install iGuidance on a new laptop with no DVD ROM drive?

Just ordered a Fujitsu P1610 (ultra-portable convertible laptop. I use iGUIDANCE 4. I am looking for the easiest way to download i GUIDANCE UMPC software to the laptop which doesn't have a drive. Could I somehow load the software onto a SD from the laptop I now use.

Do you have an external Hard drive? Just rip the iguidance DVD to the HDD and then take the iguidance setup folder and put the files and folders on your laptop in the system root. i.e. C:\Iguidance

No, don't have an external hard drive. Both laptops are running XP.

Another solution would be to copy/paste the content of the DVD via your home network. Or you could use a USB Flash Drive. By the way, I envy your new Fujitsu P1610 !

When I loaded Microsoft Streets and Trips on my UMPC I used a shared network drive off my laptop. It will go a lot faster if you can hard wire both PC's into the router than if you try to use wireless. You could also copy all the files to a usb strike or SD card and run the setup from there.

I am also trying to install IG to a netbook. I have shared the DVD on another laptop and performed the installation with no problems up until I try to use the map loader. It cannot find the folder for the maps to load. I have copied the folder CD1 to the C:\program files\INav folder to no avail. I also tried copying the CD1 folder to the C:\ root but it still cannot find the maps to load. Is there any way to get the map loader utility to find the source folder so it can load the maps? IG will not start, saying no maps are loaded.

I have removed the program and copied the CD to a flash drive. I then loaded the program from the flash drive. After a restart, I then ran the map loader and it prompted for activation. I did that, then tried to run the map loader and it says "Please insert iGuidance Installation/Data Disc 1". I click OK, but nothing happens. This occurred under the first scenario as well.

There needs to be a way to get the map loader to point to the CD1 folder where the MapData folder is located.

You are using an older version of iGuidance. Just create a copy of the map files on the shared computer and then transfer them to the folder created on the netbook.

Thanks for the reply. The other laptop did not have iG installed, but another laptop did. I did just as you said and it works fine. This is V 4.0 . I had referred to another thread that was similar, only version 3 and found the copy suggestion.

An added plus was that my Favorites came along as well.

I'm glad you got it sorted successfully. I thought that problem only applied to v3.
