Any idea how much the PPC version of iGuidance 2009 will cost?

Wow!! Living in the city the walking feature would be most helpful. One question, can favorites from an earlier version be imported into this version?

I have a question will this have the ability to create a route of multiple stops and analyze the most cost efficient route? I use this for service work and with gas being $4.25 US$ this feature would be invaluable.

Re: Favorites

In previous versions favorites, recent destinations, home, and itinerary were all preserved when a new version of iGuidance was installed. Simply insert the installation DVD and follow the steps.

If you wish to 'move' favorites (or recent, or home, or itinerary) to another laptop, all that needs to be done is to move a small file called favorites.dat (or recent.dat, etc)from one installation to another.

Re: Optimize stops

This feature was not present in previous versions, and inav didn't announce it in on page 1 of this thread, so my guess would be that likely we will not see such feature in iGuidance 2009.

Since I have been using iGuidance on an AXIM X30H with Windows Mobile 2003 SE, I guess that I am SOL. I am disappointed, since iGuidance has performed great for me. I am still with V3.01. I didn't upgrade to V4 because I felt it didn't offer enough improvement over V.3. It is time for fresh maps and iGuidance is by far my favorite routing software. I have been hanging on for this next release.

It looks like the new PPC version will come on a micro SD card:

iGuidance 2009 Pocket PC version:

3. Compatibility: Microsoft wm5 (pocket pc/pocket pc phone editions only), and wm6 (classic and professional editions only)
4. Price: $99 (including 2GB microSD card w/ miniSD & SD adapters, upgradeable to 4GB at add’l cost).

can it be transfered to your own SD card?

Also, the Optimize stop feature would be most helpful, I used IG-3 for a recent trip to LA. I loaded some Must see POI's into the system and between the 6 stops I think I back-tracked about 4X's, with the optimizer I probably could have done it in 1/2 the time and used 1/2 the gas.

Hello, I am new to this forum, but certainly not other forums and iGuidance

I have been using iGuidance since version 2. I have reshacked the graphics, created custom theme.ini's, added coordinates back in after they removed them for some unknown reason, and a moderator on the MP3Car forums.

In correspondence with iGuidance, they informed me that the number one feature that iG should have had since the very beginning, will not be in this version. The simple ability to search for a closest POI.

This was my email to them:

I firmly beleive that having a better way to search for surrounding POI's is the key to iGuidance's future. In the past couple of months iGo, synergic and Garmin's PC version have been released. They lack the ability to customize the display colors and such lacking a version of your theme.ini, The iG4 TTS voice is far better and a few other items.

Currently with iGuidance however, there is NO way to simply find the closest named POI. For an example, I am trying to find a Target store close to me. You can search by distance, which returns a HUGE list to try to go through.... or by name, which is very inaccurate. For instance in iGuidance You have to go to Menu, Destination, Points of Interest, 2npd page, retail, General Merchandise (Not Department store or it will not show up, and you will have to go back 2 screens). You then have type "T" to jump to the W's. You are then finally presented with a list of Target stores. I my case there is one less than a mile from my house, and the top one in the list is 27 miles away!

In Garmin Mobile PC (Many on the MP3Car forums, GPS Passion forums and many others are calling it the iGuidance Killer and It is also half the price of iGuidance) you press "Where To" then Select "Spell Name" Type what you want.... and thats it, the list of Target stores is displayed from the closest one at the top of the list..

At least the new 5, 10, 25 mile will help, but will still not put them in order of the closest to your location. But it is still not the complete solution.

Also the fact that I purchased iG4 for $99 around 5 months ago, and have to shell out another $79 is a bit much for the small increase in features. I can live without the intersection view, as really it is just eye candy. When iG says the turn is in a half mile and switches to guidance mode, that is good enough for me.

I guess they also changed their minds, as they state in the reply that it is iG 4.1, which would be a minor update, and thus free.....

Personally, I am gonna wait this update out, and hope they get it together for the next release.

Hey JohnWPB, it's good to see you here! Yes, I very much agree with your feature suggestion. When I first read the list of new features of iGuidance 2009 posted by inav on page 1, I was under the impression the new POI lookup by distance w/ 3 options: 5, 10, or 25 miles was a substitute for the lack of the feature you've mentioned. After testing it a bit, though, it is not the case. It helps a bit, but I wish there was always the option to Enter POI name to speed up the search, instead of just having to scroll down through all the various results.

inav has always said the next version would be just a "minor' upgrade in the form of v.4.1. If you search the web you will see they not once mentioned version 5 - it was always users like us who started threads with titles "iGuidance 5"

It is going to be version 4.1, and on the box it will say iGuidance 2009.

Do you think it make sense to charge a 'major version' upgrade price (as was the case from 3 to 4) for a 'minor version' upgrade?

Has anybody been able to confirm if the PPC version will be able to be transferred to a different SD card? (I hate the concept of giving up or frequently having to switch out my 8GB card)

But this method will require add'l admin overhead, shipping cost both ways, customer privacy issue (info on their card), virus, shipping damage, etc., so we pretty much ruled that out. We just haven't been able to find any software company that does copyright protection for PPC's. And since it's not cost effective for us to write the copyright protection software ourselves, we end up having to resort to the same SD DRM technology that other vendors are using to reduce illegal copy. I really hate this. Because this type of copyright protection measure is always result of others but end up inconveniencing the good and paying customers....

As upsetting as this may be for some long time iGuidance users, I think no one can blame iNav for doing this. iNav has been one of the last ones to implement any sort of anti-piracy protection into their software. A year ago it was the Laptop/UMPC/CarPC versions, and this year it will be the PPC PDA version.

The pricing details are, or will be, published at www.inavcorp.com. It may be useful to review the pricing policy, because I think either in this thread, or some other thread, a user posted info that he pre-ordered iGuidance 2009, and shortly after he paid he was contacted by iNav that he doesn't need to pay for the DVD, and iNav would charge him only a shipping/handling fee because of his recent purchase of iGuidance 4.

Beside the number of improvements done to the software, the new iGuidance 2009 will include a one year fresher map data (© 2008 Navteq). The map data costs iNav money.
