How to use the Itinerary in iGuidance to route to multiple destinations

I am the winner of the recent give-away of iGuidance 2009, for which I am greatful... I have read the help directions on building a route with the itinerary function... I have set up a starting location, stop location in between and a destination location. When I select the "Go" function to build the route, the stop location in between is being ignored. If I route to the in between location as the destination location, the program will route to that location. I am having difficulty including all three locations in the route. Screen shots are provided. Instructions and thoughts would be appreciated.

Okay, now I am having an additional problem... When I try to develop a new route, iGuidance wants to begin the route from my last know curser position, not the beginning point of the itinerary... See attached Screen Shot... Mobile, the beginning point of the route, is on the Gulf Coast of Alabama... But, the route is starting in the middle of the State???

I suspect you've installed the program, and you are just in the process of discovering its features while at home (not in the car).

This feature cannot be tested well if you are not on the road.

The Itinerary feature is rather very simple to use. Open Itinerary, click "Add" to add your destination #1, click "Add" again for destination #2, and so on. When you are done entering all your stops, just hit the "Nav" button to start navigating to the first destination.

When you arrive to destination #1, iGuidance will ask you if you wish to proceed to destination #2. Press "Yes" (or "No").

P.S. In iGuidance you only see one segment of your trip. In a trip from A to B to C to D, the program will only display the route from A to B at the start of the trip. When you arrive to B you will see the B to C segment.

There is no need to enter your start point address. iGuidance knows where you are from your GPS position.

Yes, I was excited to install the new program and learn it at home.

I understand your explanation of the route starting from the current location... That explains the route starting in the middle of the State... On the face of it, that doesn't sound too user-friendly for advanced route planning, but I will reserve judgement until I know more...

I think I set up the route in the Itinerary planner as you suggest... You can look at the screen shot and see what I did... I still don't understand why it did not route to the middle Birmingham destination...

That's correct. For advanced route planning use trip planners such as Microsoft Streets & Trips, or DeLorme Street Atlas. The strength of iGuidance is not advanced trip planning, but a very simple, easy, and quick navigation from A to B. Give it a try, you may fall in love with it. There is nothing wrong with using more than one program to achieve your goal. One application for advance trip planning (if needed), and another application for navigation.

I will keep in mind its "best use." Do you have any idea why the route dropped the middle destination?

I don't know why it would skip an entry in the itinerary. Were you actually in your car driving the route when this happened, or you were testing this at home? If this was a test at home, I'd suggest to try the same when in the car. It should work just fine.

My testing of the program has been in a stationary position (from home) with the gps receiver active. I have run the "repair" function to make sure the installation was good. I still can not get the itinerary to include a mid-route destination. I don't really understand how being in the car would cause the initial routing to be correct. Any thoughts would be appreciated...

I don't understand what you are trying to do. I added some stuff from favourites to the itinerary (as that was easiest) and pushed the Go button. iGuidance asked if I wanted to go to the top location on the list and set up a route from here (my desk) to there.

I'm not sure what you mean by "include a mid-route destination".

As Marvin has pointed out, with iGuidance you will never ever get routing directions past the first point in the itinerary. So, by that definition, you can have an itinerary with ten points in it but you'll only ever see the route calculated and displayed onscreen from where you are to the next point in the itinerary, and directions provided for only that section.

You will never see the route for the total itinerary, from starting point to final destination, displayed onscreen nor will you ever see directions for the total itinerary. iGuidance simply doesn't do that. It calculates routing, displays the route onscreen and provides directions from where you are to the next point you have identified. That's it.

When iGuidance detects that you are at that point, it will ask if you want the routing and directions to the next point. That's the only time, and the only way, you will ever see the routing onscreen and directions for anything beyond that "next" point in the itinerary.

That's why Marvin keeps telling you that the only way you can honestly test it is to go for a drive with it. Set a multipoint itinerary to, say, a couple of stores or donut shops in the area and head out. Once iGuidance has a satellite lock and is ready to roll, you'll see the routing onscreen to the first point. When you get there, you'll get the routing to the next point, but not before that.

Is that what you are getting at?

Or are you saying that you can't even create an itinerary with more than a single point in the list?

I am saying that, when I have a multiple destination route, that the program skips whatever is in the middle and routes directly to the end. It does not route to the first location...

It may be as simple as I do not have the order of the route correctly entered top to bottom in the itinerary... Does the ending location go at the top or the bottom of the itinerary list... I feel a "duh" moment coming on...

iGuidance considers the location at the top of the itinerary list as the first location you want to go to. You can change which location is at the top or the order using the up/ down buttons.

Just figured that out as you were replying... Thanks for the help, Terry. The fog is beginning to clear... As suspected by the group, I was just trying to make it too complicated... Thanks to everyone! I will give it a road test!

It is not as we are used to. I remember it taking me ages trying to understand what to do for multiple stops.
