Laptop GPS World

I have a GPS -500 that came with my 2007 Street and Trips. The receiver worked fine on and old Compaq computer. Got a fix within seconds every time.

Recently I re installed the software and GPS -500 on a new Acer Aspire One running windows XP. Blue light is always on but it now sometimes takes an hour to get a fix.
Re installing the drivers sometimes helps. I returned the reciever to Pharos and they said it checks out fine. Its recieving data but will not 'geta fix'.

Any sugestions would be apreciated. I believe its something with the netbook but have tried everything I can think of to no avail.

I am having the same problem with my EeePC. I installed the unit, the newest streets and trips, and it can detect the GPS.. but the GPS wont find a satellite. Any help would be appreciated. I have the GPS-500, and the blue light does turn on.

Make sure you are using the extension cable. The netbook may be too noisy (rf-wise) to allow the GPS to work if plugged directly into the USB port.

hm yes i saw after posting a few people said that could be a solution.. only problem is I cant find my extension cable at the moment looks like ill be going out to get one.

In my case, the receiver was too close to the netbook.

Using the extention cord that came with the unit fixed it.
