The 'touch-screen' of my new monitor doesn't work

I just received my monitor and it doesn't work. If I connect it via 15-pin serial (VGA?) port, it works, but is not a "touch screen". If I connect it via USB, my mouse pad quits, laptop informs me that another pointing device is connected, but extended monitor is dark. It says "No Input Signal". Maybe I need driver installed, but my laptop is unable to read the "Driver Setup Software" mini CD I received with the monitor. Or maybe the driver is already installed (laptop recognise "another device"), but I need change setup in my laptop, to send video via USB? Please help!

I would think you need to connect both the USB (for touch screen input) and the VGA (for display output).

Why is your laptop not able to read the setup CD? Are you centering it properly in the CD tray? Can you download the setup files from the manufacturer's website to your hard drive and set up from there?

That is correct. The USB and VGA both need to be plunged in. The usb is for the touch screen. Not sure about not be able to read the CD, but the drivers and software both need to be installed before it will work.

I don't have problems with reading other CD's on my laptop. Laptop see this CD, but when I try to start it, I only hear one "squick" and nothing happens. If I try to open files on this CD I get empty folder.

PS. I restarted my laptop, now it can see what is on CD. It doesn't make a bit of difference. When I connect USB cable, laptop turns off mouse pad, but external monitor still does not operate as a touch screen.

Did you run the setup program that is on the CD. It should load the software that runs the touch screen and the drivers/. Not sure what is going on on with the mouse?

That is the problem. I'm unable to run setup. Loading CD into computer doesn't trigger any setup. Now I only can see what is on that disc, all those folders, but there is no action.

For me it is no big problem, since laptop is right beside me. I can easily reach to mouse pad. I needed extra monitor to mount it in front of me, so I could see it while driving, but I still can use mouse pad of my laptop. Just wonder thou why touch screen is not operational.

Did you try right clicking on the CD in explorer and choose autoplay? Or look for a setup.exe or install.exe on the CD. Do any of the folders look like they might apply to your setup? Windows? XP? Vista?

Here's what you need to do:

1 - unplug the usb from the laptop (that's going to the monitor)
2 - run the setup on the cd. this will install both the drivers and the touchscreen utilities
3 - shut down the computer
4 - plug in the usb to the laptop (that's going to the monitor)
5 - start the laptop
6 - run the calibration software that installed with the drivers

You can't plug in the touchscreen first or it won't work correctly.

If you still aren't able to read the cd/run the setup, go to the touchscreen monitor's website and download a new setup.

Thx, guys. I believe I have problem with my hardware. My laptop after couple of years of "a whole lotta shakin' goin' on" in my truck has problem reading some CD's. Finally I was able to intall those drivers, but I had to do this mannually, step by step. I did open folder "Windows 200 XP" (My laptop has Windows XP), then folder "4.0.2.1929", then unzip folder "Win2000_XP_4.0.2.1929.zip", next "Win2000_XP_4.x" and finally run "Setup.exe".

Still need to make some adjustments. Sometimes pointer on the screen is not aligned with the point where I touch the screen. I have now several possibilities to set up screen resolution for both monitors but sometimes they are incompatible. For instance my "normal" resolution for a laptop's screen is 1440x900, but new monitor gives me options to set it up as a 1440x1050 or 1280x1024 or several others, but 1440x900 is not among them. But that's minor issue. Still works very well.

Now I have options to run either one of the monitors, to run both of them as a "clones", or to have either one of them as a "primary monitor". Still learning about it, but I can already recommend it to every one who need additional monitor for his laptop.

I'm glad to hear that you've solved the problem. In the future, if you ever find yourself in similar situation, you could use a DVD drive in another PC via network, as one of possible workarounds.

Yes, I know. I even tried that. First I checked on desktop in my home if disc I've got isn't corrupted, then I recognised it will be easier to read it via network. Only... how to make that stupid network to see my laptop? It was working just the other day... I'm hopeless, trust me. However I'm glad too, that I did it and that my laptop finally decided to recognise this installation CD. And one day, I'm sure,I even learn how to fix my broken network.

PS. This program actually has a tool to do this adjustment. And screen resolution has nothing to do with it. It is called TouchKit and I already downloaded it when i did setup. It requires only to align stylus with the hair cross in four corners of the monitor:

No problem. I just uploaded dozen or so new pictures, now with that second monitor. I tried several locations to mount it, using factory supplied mount, but best result I've achieved simply velcroing it to windshield just in front of driver seat. I seat high in my truck, so it makes possible for that locations. In passenger car or pick-up truck monitor in place like that would obstruct the view of the road.
