Re: Any one know of an economical way to mount a laptop in a Ford Escape?
It isn't economical, but I'm a big fan of the RAM Mount line. My Ford Edge is my office, and I depend on it all day, every day. The laptop is held securely, but comes out easily. It's adjustable, so I can have the laptop right where I want it, or push it out of the way.
My prior vehicle was a Ford Freestar. When I changed cars, all I had to buy was the steel plate that attaches to the seat mounting bolts.
Yeah, it is expensive, but consider what it would cost in time and effort when your laptop crashes to the floor in a panic stop. In my case it was $200 for a new hard drive, and two days of lost productivity.

The Proclip mounting system is made of ABS plastic and is considerably less expensive. It will support a Tablet PC but not a regular laptop, because it does not have a tray for the keyboard.
For large devices like Tablet PCs, you basically have to trust the power of adhesives because that's how the mounting plate attaches to the Tablet PC. (The rest of the system is attached mechanically to the car.) A Microsoft promotional page suggests that the Proclip solution works just fine for a 3.5 pound Tablet PC -- the same model I've got. I just bought one, will see how it works out.

Tao, I truly hope it will work for you. If it does, I will buy one, too. But I'm not sure if it is strong enough to really hold a Tablet PC in a moving vehicle. I'll be very much looking for any feedback that you can provide. ProClip is a company I trust, though, so perhaps I shouldn't draw quick conclusions based on seeing a single picture. .

Hi IP Controls,
 to Laptop GPS World.
Do you have personal experience with Jotto desks? The $340 seems a bit steep. I just checked Ram-Mount website, and a laptop mount for For Escape is $202.48.

I know the company and I got that price from their website, but when I reread the thread I noticed that the poster was wanting a mount for an Edge. I had linked to an Escape. Sorry. The mounts are made to attach without drilling any holes and are cradle models so there is no port replication. They are quality built and compete with Ram Mount.

I think you linked it to the correct product. The original poster was asking for Ford Explorer laptop mount. It was the Rick (a.k.a. kcflyer), who mentioned his Edge in his reply .

I think both of you are on magic mushrooms or something. The original post was indeed for the Ford Escape, not the Edge nor the Explorer. (At least you didn't change brands on him.)
