Hello all -

I am looking for mapping/navigation software to use in Israel.

I cannot find any, except for a program called FreeMap which doesn't seem to be very good.

Are there any solutions?

Destinator has maps for Israel, but unfortunately they don't have a Windows XP or Windows Vista software program. I've heard of some people running the PocketPC version of Destinator on a Laptop PC somehow. I think they use a PocketPC emulator for it. I've never tried it myself, and I wish someone else gives you more useful info than me on this.

Yesterday, right after reading your post, I emailed Destinator to inquire if they had plans on releasing a PC version of their program. I haven't received a reply yet.

For exactly this reason (not having maps for where I live) I started six years ago developing GEM, which downloads maps from MapQuest, Google or Microsoft Virtual Earth. If their maps of Israel are good enough for your purpose, then have a look at http://www.schaik.com/gps/gemglobal/gemglobal.html. I've also a version for Windows Mobile (Pocket PC).

Thank you, but unfortunately, Mapquest, Google maps, and virtual earth, do not have detailed map of Israel.

Thank you. I will keep it in mind when I get a WM device (soon) but meanwhile I am looking for something that runs on Win XP.
