GPS Laptop software for Windows 7?

Hi,

A friend has a Dell laptop that he bought with ALK CoPilot Laptop 11. He wants to upgrade from Windows XP to Windows 7, but it looks like CoPilot won't run on Windows 7.

Can anyone give me recommendations of comparable software that runs well on Windows 7 and has similar features to CoPilot 11? I don't use this kind of GPS software myself, so I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to which features are important.

Streets & Trips 2010 runs great on all versions Windows 7 including 64bit. I would encourage you to download the 2 month free trial and see if it meets your needs.

One question... I notice that Streets & Trips 2010 comes either with or without a USB GPS stick. Is it safe to assume that the internal GPS in the Dell Mini 10 will work with Streets & Trips, or will the GPS stick be necessary?

It may or may not work. We've had people here with various laptops, netbooks, and UMPCs with built-in GPS receivers which didn't work with GPS software easily. In some cases GpsGate solves this issue, but not in all cases.

Unless someone with a Dell Mini 10 replies to this thread, we may not know for sure.

Do you have the Dell Mini 10 with the integrated GPS?

I've tried several laptops with integrated GPSes and had success. I wouldn't say that using integrated GPS is on par with a dedicated external one but it sure is convenient and they're getting better all the time.

If you can please give it a try and report your experience.
