Re: Google Earth Plus
PS Enhanced images on Google Earth are usually supplied by cities that use them for their maps. They pay for the photographs and make them available to google. Penticton is a good example. their website has all the city c/w property lines in high def. they are about 3 years old and apparently are in the process of having them rephotgraphed soon.
( shades of big brother is watching you - for example if you put a new deck on your house a techie in the backroom at city hall could run a comparison of the old and new - find your new deck - have a reassessment of your property - andyour property value goes up - and so do your taxes. That folks is what makes the world go round!

Re: Google Earth Plus
Edh,
EDIT: DOH!! I shoulda read the manual.... Ignore the following. It all becomes quite clear when you rtfm. {blush}
How can you tell if Google Earth+ has a lock with the GPS? I sprung for the upgrade and activated it. With my laptop sitting at the kitchen table I connected the S&T 2008 GPS receiver and fired up S&T to test it. It had a good lock. So I exited S&T and fired up Google Earth+. I couldn't see any evidence that it was seeing the GPS, so I went to TOOLS>GPS page to see if there was some obvious way to see the GPS or turn it on.
There doesn't appear to be any obvious way to see if there's a GPS connection. I tried selecting the Magellan/Serial. I tried clicking the "START" button on the tracking page. None of it seemed to make any difference. In all cases there is no indication of whether GE+ has a connection with the GPS.
It's not that it doesn't have a connection. I just don't know how to tell if it does. There is nothing obvious.

Re: Google Earth Plus
Google updating is a good thing Gordon!!
I don't think they have enough employee's at city hall to check all the properties. I do know after working for this city for 30 yrs, even if they had enough employees, none of them would work hard enough to catch you.

Re: Google Earth Plus
kEN in Regina:
The GPS gods smile on some and make life hell for others. I've been trying for months to get a track down on GGE+ and good ol' edh jumps in his truck and drives to Calgary and gets a track.
The closest I`ve come is to right click `realtime gps` go to properties - select colour -
``reset` the coloured dot on the location of the receiver and when I clse the properties - it disappears. If you go to altitude and se say 100 ft and go to upper right to view at an angle - there it is in living colour going straight up from its location.
the same applies with `here to there`tracks - they look like a fence along your route.
Maybe if edh reads this he will give us step by step by click exactly what he does so that we can spend some time tracking and less steno work on the keyboards.
thanks - do enjoy the camaraderie -

Re: Google Earth Plus
After reading your comments Gordon, I feel guilty about my lack of knowledge. If I am able to get Google map to track and you are not, I suspect it's because i did something inadvertantly. I have no idea what.
I can send you a copy of the picture where Google shut down when my computer battery died as it still shows when I turn Google on. The track shows about 1/2 kilometer up to the little green ballon. The balloon has a little black indicater showing the direction I was travelling. The balloon does indicate the eastbound lane I was travelling in. If you like I will send it to you. I don't know how to include it here.

edh:
Don't feel guilty about your lack of knowledge. We're both in the same boat. I've only had a computer since Nov. I would like to se a pic of your track. Try post it as Marvin suggests or email it to me.
If you have live messenger or Skype we could talk or video chat that way too.
I wonder if you have to fire up S&T first beore GGE+ to get hat elusive track? Must try but there's all that damn gardening to be done and the Head Gardener is getting antsy.
Looking forward to your pic.- Gordon Kerr

Re: Google Earth Plus
Good work EdH!
Amazing what us ol' guys can learn to do.
One ? about the picture - how come the track was so short behind the bubble?
As I think I know approx. where you are I will try and sen you a pic W/ map overlaid.
Weather has been so lousy I haven't been out to road test - besides the grow op flowers are coming like stink.
Hope you have come up with an inverter. I got mine at Canadian tire - 300W
when they were on sale for $25 - 2 outlet reg. $48 - has a cooling fan - wrks like a charm.

Re: Google Earth Plus
Hi Gordon,
The picture shows the Trans Canada Highway at the west side of Calgary. If you were standing there you could likely see the Wecome to Calgary sign. I don't know why the red line is so short. I have seen it longer. I don't think the red line stays for long so it's likely not good for retracing your route. I did mention that Google Earth works while iGuidance or S&T is on. So the locater could be tracking on one of those if you needed to retrace your route. The locater does not work on iGuidance and S&T at the same time
One other person here sent me a private message saying he had checked the co-ordinates and says they show the position about a 1/4 mile from where the balloon shows in the picture. I don't know why.
I do have an inverter that I picked up at Canadian Tire on sale. I just have to figure out where i want to put it in my vehicle. Right now it looks like under one of the front seats. We intend to head out to the cabin again next week so I would like to have it hooked up then.
We do not plan any long trips by vehicle. I got GPS for the laptop because friends are moving to different new parts of Calgary and I got lost once trying to find their home.

Hi Johndeerbilly
Well, my wife sometimes thinks I'm a shifty kind of guy. Maybe she's right. Is that the same location you mentioned in the PM.

Re: Google Earth Plus
well that is the place mentioned in my earlier post to you. In Google Earth the pic is very clear, even shows a white car just a tad to the west of your location The Delorme location is very nearly the same location as google. course it SHOULD be the same place. duh!

Re: Google Earth Plus
bumping this thread...
This is what we need but for S&T;
http://www.fugawi.com/web/support/go...rth_plugin.htm
How is Fugawi Global Navigator, anyone familiar with it? Hmm, I see there's a 10 day free demo, wonder if it works with S&T's GPS?
