Question Google Earth Pro via GPS (altitude setting) Q

Hi,

I'm not new to Google Earth, but I am to navigating with it using my Pharos GPS (MS S&T bundled device).

I'm running into a problem. When I plug in the GPS the program locates me within 30 seconds, and then flies down towards the Earth .. essentially crashing and burning *L* IOW's it pulls in so close that the detail blurs into oblivion.

I've looked for a default setting that might be over riding my actions when I try and stay pulled back at a useable altitude, but failed to find the problem. I pull back .. the program immediately dives back in.

Would be great to regain control over the altitude I'm set at when viewing Google Earth, while navigating through it via my (attached) GPS.

Any ideas?

TIA,

Joe

Joe, I think that there is no way to control the zoom level, but there may be 3rd party applications which work with Google Earth, and which may give you such functionality.

Such basic feature should have been included in Google Earth Plus. Hmm, perhaps next version?

I haven't been able to get my Pharos to work in Google Earth plus at all. When I click on GPS - Garmin And Magellan are the only ones listed. - do you need Pro to have pharos work on Google?

It should work (unless the Pharos GPS is connected to the new MSN Direct receiver, in which case remove the GPS from the MSN Direct unit, and connect the GPS directly to your laptop).

In Google Earth Plus go to Tools > GPS, and there ignore the "Historical" tab. Click the "Real Time" tab, select NMEA protocol, place a checkmark in the "Automatically follow the path" check box, and then click the "Start" button.

Make sure no other program is using the GPS receiver at the same time (unless you are using some GPS signal splitter).

Angry Google/Pharos Conundrum

I did everything as laid out in yesterdays reply while still at home w/ pharos in the window. A little Red dot appeared in my neighbours yard about 50 ft away. It then move to about 35 ft away from the receiver in my yard. Left to do it's own thing it laid a feeble line jaggedly across the yard. The received hadn't been moved.
When I went for a road test - nothing!

A couple of months ago when I first got the receiver a blue dot appeared on the image of my back yard, about 35ft from the receiver and moved around a little bit. 35 ft is apparently the acceptable degree of accuracy, so I thought that this would be how a track would be laid down. For the past 2 months I couldn't get even a dot out of it, yet the Pharos worked perfectly w/ S&T.

I feel so close - but denied ! is there some tab, button, or curse one has to employ to kick this thing in?

If I do get it to work there will be photos at 11.

I haven't tried this but if I remember correctly when you right click on your choicees the Last 'properties' box when left clicked leaves tabbed 'folders' some of which are 'altitude' and they are defaulted to 'fixed' to ground. What better place to crash and burn? try setting the altitude to say 100 ft and see what happens.

I have been caught up in the same situation and just keep pulling back until it stops. It's too late to try it tonite but will give this theory a go in the morning - during or after English Premier Soccer. ( See - there are other things we do to occupy our time !!

Good luck!

Mar30-08 Doesn't work! I tried it yesterday as I started overzooming too. I have an icon (camera?) 'Realtime GPS' which seemed to have an effect on crash and burn

The only way I have found to avoid the appraent overzoom is to de-select the "Automatically follow the path" checkbox on the GPS/Realtime window. The realtime tracking will zoom WAY in, then back out a bit, then WAY in agin repeatedly. It just doesn't seem to work right at all.

My Pharos GPS receiver (labelled Microsoft - came with Streets and Trips) works OK for me with Google Earth Pro. In fact, I use it via Franson GPSGate satisfactorily.

Lightbulb Have GGEarth plus not pro

Thanks for the reply

As headed I have GGE Plus and others have claimed it accepts Pharos. AmI missing some kind of driver? or what?

Yesterday I downloaded GPS Trackmaker and took it out on a road test this aft and it's a sweetie with the Pharos - but must convert my map files to work with it. GPS Trackmaker PRO will apparently take GGE and Maps that work on GGE. GPS Trackmaker is a free download out of Brazil - I haven't
checked into their PRO as to cost yet as we all watch our pennies until we know for sure that there is value for money. GGE chats state that the Pharos
will work but I haven't been able to figure out how.

As stated in previous threads I've got spatters of tracks twice now on GGE.
I't kind of cute how the track location kind of sputters around on GGE - but -
It also sputters around on GPS Trackmaker while stationary.

I'm still having fun, but would like to experience some whoopee time.

Thanks for all repsonses
