Smile LOKI.COM

I found this one on mozilla

Although it appears to be for US it came within 4 blocks of locating me.

NOW GET THIS ! - NO GPS RECEIVER !

The maps have some inaccuracies but what potential for wifi laptops if they actually pick up satellite signals.

Got to hit the road and see if it works away from my wirless environment.

I think it's a service that relies on WiFi access points to determine the location. It can show your approximate location 1.) if you are connected to a WiFi network, and 2.) if the WiFi access point is in the database of the (loki.com) service.

It's not something one would want to use for navigation, but perhaps if a laptop is not equipped with GPS, then this may be the 2nd best thing to help you quickly centre a map on your (approximate) location.

...That is my understanding, also. Just as a data point, I've tried using a similar service in my (semi-urban) location and it didn't work...

Thumbs up Loki.com

It is a WiFi location locator.

There is a bug in the present version which will corrected in the next version.

In the meantime, it's fun and when debugged will serve you well if your GPS isn't with you

Thanks for the responses

Gordon Kerr
