Marvin:
I contacted M.S. support and they FIXED 2008. It took about 45 minutes on the phone. Thanks again for your patience with me and the note from Janet Angel. I'm not going to delete 2007 for quite a while, just in case. Regards, Mike Flannigan |

Ten Bear & Ken:
I called Microsoft Support (866-452-4755) and they fixed 2008 with remote support. It was painless and took a little less than an hour. NO COST. You need to have it installed and need your "Product ID" and "Product Key". I wanted to thank you for your help. Regards, Mike Flannigan |

That's great news, flannigan. It must be a fairly serious problem if you have to go through tech support as the only means of fixing it, rather than a simple patch download. I hope it stays fixed.
What did they tell you to do if you ever have to reinstall it? Does that mean another call to tech support? Just curious. ...ken... |

I don't know the answer to that.
I did find out that the 1 year warranty period would be the cutoff for free tech support. Regards, Mike Flannigan |

Mike, thanks for letting all of us know. I'm glad it has been solved, and that gives us hope this issue will not appear in the future Streets & Trips 2009 version.

JANETANGLE,
Thanks for passing on the info about a fix for 2008. Concur with Marvin. S&T 2009 impact is critical to ensure a future for the product. Only disappointment or lack of detail on the exact fix is that hopefully it not a recurring item that can cause another shutdown of 2008 without warning!

Thanks so much for all the info here. Just to add to a useful thread, i had this problem april 2, 2008. I just figured my sorry laptop was on the fritz so I reinstalled the intire OS. (erased my harddrive)
![]() Now it's april 15, 2008 and the exact same thing happened again. So the moral is, don't start from scratch like i did. Sure i was able to use ST2008 for 2 weeks, but I'm back to square one. And i didn't even have a single other program loaded on my laptop besides xp and ST2008. It's midnight so now I'm jsut going to wait for support to open in the morning. thanks so much for everyones posts here, very good detective work.![]() |

Marvin:
Streets stopped working for me the first week of December 2007. It was fixed the first few days of April 2008. (5 months) Do you think Microsoft will rebate all of us the pro-rated amount of our purchase (theoretically 42%) for the time we could not use their product ??????? Oh well, we can all dream, can't we. Thanks again to your forum for the help. Regards, Mike Flannigan |

mbrazzeal, welcome to Laptop GPS World. After you make the phone call to Microsoft technical support, let us know if the fix works for you, too.
Mike, nice try .

well I found out the problem from Microsoft. Apparently it's a known issue that people using their mouse with their left hand to operate ST2008 are having crashes with the program. Come on, if you can't joke with other ST2008 users, who can you joke with.
![]() keke. Well there is a patch that is installed onto my comp called STreset.zip that seemed to auto reset ST2008. After it valadated my copy, it reset it and is now working fine. And confirmed, it took about 45 mins total. As a precaution I took the zip file out of the recycle bin where the tech put it and am putting it in my ST2008 folder incase i need it again. ![]() Thanks again for all the hlp here. |

Thanks for the tip on removing the file from your recycle bin. I did the same.

Is the file STreset.zip the whole fix or is there more that has to be done to complete the fix?
Seems like 45 minutes is a long time to install a fix; especially if you have give MicroSoft access to your computer for that long. |

i'm pretty sure the zip is all you need. 45 mins is what it takes to remotley access your comp and verify you. then about a 5 min dl of the file, then the tech starts the program STreset.

Is the 45 minutes using dial-up or broadband? How large is the zip file? These are things that will affect the time but I haven't seen any mention of them.
