I am using broadband.
The weakest link was their server. It took about 4-5 mins to dl the file and it was tranfering at 11-14KB/sec. I asked the guy why it was so slow and he commented that it was their server. It was overworked he commented.

Just read through all 11 pages of the same problem I am having with S&T 2008. I tried everything Mike Flannigan did with the same results - no luck!

Finally read about Microsoft being able to repair it so I will try that now. Just wanted to get my voice added to the problem.

Tom, sorry that you had to go through all that, but thanks for letting us know. I just added a note to the very first posting of this thread, letting readers know the fix has been found. I hope Mike doesn't mind I edited his posting. And, by the way, big thanks goes to Mike (flannigan) for starting this 11 pages long thread.

Marvin - Called Microsoft this evening and they took control of my computer and "fixed" Streets & Trips 2008. At least for now it opens!

thanks for all of the suggestions. i too had the same problem with MS S&T 2008, called their tech support, and he took control. He downloaded the zip file "ResetST-1" and ran it. I was finally allowed to enter the Product Key from the inside sleeve of the case, and the program runs! Now, after S&T loaded, the tech support had me minimize the program, then he went to delete the zip file and the extracted file from desktop. I'm running Firefox and for whatever reason he did not delete all instances of the reset tool. I still have it on my pc. I would be glad to share it, but don't know if that's legal, or if it's legal for me to even have the file since he attempted to delete it. Give me your thoughts. I know I WILL NOT be deleting it from my pc as I don't want to go through this nightmare again. I'd be glad to, uh, share it if anyone wants it.

roger. makes good sense. there must be something about the file that prevents them from publicly releasing it. also, the file is proprietary to MS so best it stay where it is...on my pc! wahoo!!

Which brings the question, what does it really do to the system?

from what i could tell from what he was doing, it appears that it is nothing more than a tool that allows one to activate the product using the Product Key that was inside of the sleeve, without actually going ONLINE to do so. That may be the, uh, key. That the "reset" tool allows bypassing what appears to be a buggy online product registration process (new to 2008 S&T). I doubt they'll release the tool, proly make the fix in 2009 version.

I don't suppose anyone can email me this file? I'm not on a "high-speed" internet as the tech required...and I need to get my Streets and Trips 2008 working before I go on a trip.

Got my copy of streets & strips 2008 fixed. Called MS tech support, they wanted to remote connect to my PC. Told them that was an unacceptable solution, I do not want anyone to take control of my computer. They sent me the patch file via email, explained what it would do, problem fixed, end of story.

I had the same trouble as of yesterday (07/Aug/2008) and I also rang MS Support in the US as Streets & trips is NOT supported here in the UK but after been given a case number I was put through to India where all I was given was a link to www.skydrive.live.com and was told I could find a patch there. Well I couldn't so could anyone possibly email me through the patch. I am on broadband so any large files should be OK. I just don't want to ring MS Support in the US again as it's not cheap!

Please correct me anyone if I'm wrong here, but if I understand it correctly, this file resets the 60 day trial period back to day one. If that's the case, the problem with sharing this particular file is, that it would allow anyone to use unlimited number of installations of Streets & Trips indefinitely (beyond the 60 days).

I think it is reasonable that Microsoft has not released this file as a publicly available download. I would not want this website to be used to leak the file to the public. I hope you understand. Thanks.
