Laptop GPS World

I was forced to re-activate S&Trips 2008. I was told "because of a major change in my computer". I don't know what that change was. However, I went thru the process of doing it (by phone). It successfully re-activated and I CAN open the program.
My problem is that all of the files (maps) I had saved were changed to an est. file and I cannot open any of them with Streets. I went thru the open with procedure and cannot find Streets in the "other programs" file. I did finally find it and "opened" it but it would not add to the other program list ?
Does anyone know of a fix for this ? I have tried the web and other things with no success. It's not impossible for me to redo the maps, but a LOT of work. I would appreciate any help.

Mike, if I understand you correctly, it seems just that the .est file extension needs to be associated with Microsoft Streets and Trips 2008.

Thanks for your help.

I found a way to fix it myself, just now. I don't think I can explain it except to say I "saved as" to my desktop and opened and it worked. It also changed the Icons in my maps folder from what looked like a text file to the Streets Icon ????

Excellent, Mike, very good. I wonder what originally caused the problem in the first place. Perhaps the laptop didn't close properly, and a file got corrupted .

I guess. I restarted several times and still couldn't find the M&S listed in the "Open with" dialogue. Now when I right click and "Open with" the Microsoft Streets & Trips 2008 shows like it should ???
Can't figure it.

Another strange thing happened. When I opened my S&T folder to view my saved maps, several of them I opened less of the pushpins I know I had put on that specific map ???? It's almost like it was an earlier version.
I opened my back up flash drive and looked at the same maps and they had all the pushpins. I deleted the Maps folder on my computer and replaced it with the backup Maps folder from my flash drive and the ones in the new folder, on my computer opened with all of the pushpins ?????
Anyway, I got it fixed.
I feel like I have a ghost playing with me.

Sounds like System Restore got invoked. This would explain both the file rollback, and the fact that S&T detected "a major change." I also wonder if it might be the cause of the other problems you've experienced with S&T activation.

What antivirus/security/antimalware program do you run? If you didn't invoke System Restore manually, usually your antivirus program did.

Thanks for the input. I did initiate a system restore after trying to correct an audio problem. What's puzzling to me is that I have used system restore quite a few times before and never had this problem. Oh well, at least everything is OK now.
