Unhappy Help with Bluetooth GPS Holux M1000 and Microsoft AutoRoute

In few hours I am on the way to Europe and still couldn't get the thing to work...

AutoRoute Europe recognizes the reciever but when I click on "Start GPS tracking" it says that the com port is already used...

It comes with no drivers (works over bluetooth) and I wonder if I miss anything...

Any ideas?

Hi nermoz,

to Laptop GPS World.

When you press the "scan" button to look for your GPS receiver in your MS AutoRoute, the program recognizes your GPS receiver, but it says com port is being used when you try to use it?

Hmm, I personally use mostly USB GPS receivers, and at the moment I don't have any Bluetooth unit around. But yes, you don't need any additional software (driver, etc). It is just supposed to be plug-and-play. On occasion I used Bluetooth GPS units, and I haven't experienced this kind of issue . Sorry, I don't know what to suggest. Hopefully some other user will give you a quick answer, so you can use your AutoRoute during your trip.

I just tried with my Bluetooth GPS10x and S&T 2008. I had set S&T for the COM port that Bluetooth had assigned to the GPS10x. I started S&T 2008 and it paired to the GPS automatically.

You might try not pairing the GPS in Bluetooth and see if selecting 'Start Tracking' in Autoroute will pair it for you. If not, confirm the COM port listed in Autoroute is the one your Bluetooth says it has assigned to your GPS.

Thanks guys !
I tried your suggestions and still stuck... it really sucks...
So I'll keep on playing with it for another couple of hours (already in Europe) and see if I can come up with something... maybe trying to force a different com port...

Yes, do try to force different com port, nermoz. Hopefully it will do the trick.

Initially it assigned COM 4. I used to have a modem on COM 3 amd just removed it and reinitiated the Holux setup. So this time COM 3 was automatically assigned. I was hopefull... but got the same problem.

I am just about to give up on it...
But I greatly appreciate your support!

Do you have any other Gps programs on the computer that you could use to ensure a GPS signal is present on the COM port?

Do you have a Palm PDA that you are syncing to the computer? Palm's HotSync program completely messes with any real and virtual COM ports, whether they are actual serial ports or USB COM port drivers or whatever. I have to exit the HotSync manager before I can use my USB GPS receivers. I don't know if it has any effect on Bluetooth yet because I haven't got Bluetooth working on my laptop (this weekend, I hope). But if you are running Palm's HotSync you could try killing it before trying to use your GPS receiver.

Just grasping at straws here, in case.

What operating system are you running on your computer?
If you are running Vista then it wont work. Holux drivers do not support Vista. I had the same problem.
