Layering pushpins on one Streets & Trips map

I am interested in adding and removing sets of points in the same group.

For example: I have my listing of stores that I always need to see. I would be able to add all the supply stores that I have found in the area. Then I would be able to remove them all when I don't need them.

This would help me have access to helpful (hard to find) resources without them cluttering up my map.

Thanks
Jesse

The only way i am thinking of is to create different pushpin sets for each group of pushpins (you can easily move pushpins between different pushpins sets). Save a file with all the different pushpins sets. Then when you use it, just delete the pushpin set you don't want to see. Later you can reload the complete original file to delete another pushpin set as needed...

Just be sure to make a backup of the map file with all the sets. That way if you manage to save the map after deleting some sets you will be able to get back to the full set.

Ken as you said, to backup the file carefully is a very important detail here

Re: Layering pushpins on one Streets & Trips map

You can hide the display of pushpin groups on the map without removing the set !
1. Start by creating a new completely blank pushpin symbol in whatever directory you like.
2. Open S&T to your map with the multiple pushpin sets.
3. In the "Legend and Overview" panel of S&T select the Pushpin Set that you want to hide.
4. Now, right click the set and edit the properties for the "Import Custom Symbol", select your new blank symbol from the location where you put it, and the set will disappear from the map.
5. Once imported, the Blank symbol will be available for any other pushpin set & it becomes easy to hide or unhide any set in 5 clicks.
The hidden pushpin set will still appear in the "Legend and Overview" panel, so that you can restore the original symbol when needed.
The hidden pushpin set will also appear in the "Find Near by Places" list and can still be found by double left clicking the name in that list even if the pushpin is hidden.
You can hide individual pushpins by right clicking on any displayed pushpin on the map and changing it's properties, the others will still be displayed.
Hints on creating the custom symbol:
a. The upper left pixel of your new symbol is treated by S&T as the clear transparent color so...... you can make your blank symbol any solid color that you want.
b. You can add a single colored pixel (not in the upper left corner) of your new symbol and the pushpin symbol will appear on the map as a single subtle point.

Re: Layering pushpins on one Streets & Trips map

Marvin - I'm surprised that nobody has picked up on the possibilities of the potential in the post of "VMGPS2" to this thread - there have been numerous people wanting to be able to turn the display of pushpin sets "on/off" depending on what they want to display on a S&T map - by creating data set(s) of pushpins they wish to control they can assign them to "transparent symbol" which can changed to a "visible symbol" when they wish to "see" that particular set of pushpins - this has the potential to solve the problem that a lot of "salesmen" have posted concerning Streets & Trips - I have tested this and it works like a charm

Sorry to be so dense, but I do not understand this first step. Is there another way of stating this instruction that might help me grasp what you are suggesting?

Re: Layering pushpins on one Streets & Trips map

SpadesFlush - i used the "Microsoft Paint" program (included in Windows) to create a 16 x 16 pixel "square symbol" - actually i just opened Paint and it defaluted to this configuration - i renamed the file "Nvisible pushpin" and saved it to My Documents folder - then opened S&T and imported "Nvisible pushpin" as a custom symbol - hope this helps - Ray
