Hi Marvin,
I just bought a new S&T2008 and had it installed on my laptop hours ago. I just notice that the "Find Address" function doesn't work at all on the street level info (but works on the city-level infomation). e.g.: If I type in London, Ontario, Canada, the S&T works and will return the expected result; if I type in 380 Southdale Rd E, London, Ontario, Canada, the S&T returns nothing but an pop-up window saying: "The address cannot be found. Check the following: * Is the address spelled correctly * Have you select......" I am pretty sure that I followed the rules of recognizable address information and also I read the manual.. However, I couldn't resolved the problem. I tried lots of different addresses and S&T's "find address" function never works ![]() Could you, or anybody else please tell me how shall I trouble-shoot the problem? Thanks a lot and I appreciate your attention! Howe from London, Ontario |

I only have S&T 2007, however typing in 380 southdale and nothing else gave me the address you were looking for at the top of the list. Could it be you are entering too much information?

I previously had a S&T2007 and it worked great. The new bought S&T2008 (in my case) doesn't support "Find Address" feature for Canadian addresses. It works well for looking up american addresses ![]() Can you share me some of your other thoughts please? BTW, I had some trouble with installing the S&T2008 originally and I fixed it and had the S&T installed by upgrading into a Windows Installer 4.5. Upon the successful installation of MS Windows Installer 4.5, the S&T was able to be installed "successfully" without popping up any error message. However, I have no idea on whether this Installer has any negative impact to the S&T2008 though. Thanks again for your post. I appreciate your comments.

Hi howhowell,
to Laptop GPS World. It could be that as Terry says you are entering too much info. Try to enter just the street number and street name (w/out street type). There is some problem related to Canadian addresses search in the 2008 version of Microsoft Streets and Trips. It has been discussed in the following thread: S&T 2008 - Data for many "avenues" missing However, I had no problem locating the example address you have provided. I copied it and then pasted it to my Streets and Trips 2008, which then successfully found it.

Hi Howe,
Here's what I did. 1. Clicked "Edit" on the top menu line 2. Clicked "Find..." in the Edit menu 3. Clicked the "Address" tab in the Find dialog 4. "Canada" was already selected in the "Country" block 5. Cut and pasted "380 Southdale Rd E" into the "Street Address" block 6. Entered "London" in the "City" block 7. Selected "ON-Ontario" in the "Province" block 8. Clicked the "Find" button The correct result was returned almost instantly. I tried just copying the whole search string "380 Southdale Rd E, London, Ontario, Canada" into the "Street Address" block and I got the same error popup that you got. You are using the Find Address dialog wrong. I have never used previous versions of MS Streets&Trips so I don't know how you used to be able to do it. The current version (2008) clearly wants the address pieces to be placed in the proper spots ... only the street address in the "Street Address" block, country in the "Country" block, city in the "City" block, and so on. When you do it that way it works perfectly, at least for your example. ...ken... |

Ken seems to be saying that you're entering the address directly in the Find dialog.
You should turn on the Navigation toolbar and enter the address there, instead of the Find dialog. This will automatically break up the address into its various components. This is also probably what Marvin did, which is why it worked for him. Looks like you've using an EEE or other UMPC mini-laptop, and you've removed the toolbars to save vertical space. You can reclaim the lost space by setting your Windows taskbar to auto-hide. Might take some time to get used to moving the mouse down to the bottom just to glance at the taskbar, but you've got to make some compromises when you're using a small screen. Thanks, Tao. I should have thought of that. I tried it and it works perfectly. Lots quicker, too.

That's one feature I love about Microsoft Streets and Trips - you can type as much or as little information into one field, press Enter-key, and most of the time S&T will immediately return what you are looking for. It's so simple and so quick.

Followed your instruction, I tried the street number and street name (e.g.: 2 Yonge St.). The "Find address" function still didn't work and returned the same pop-up window saying the address typed in couldn't be found. I read the thread you posted above and I am pretty sure that the addresses I typed in were not the "rare" addresses. Basically, the S&T08 seems not working with any canadian address I typed in..... The funny thing is: I tried to type in some US's addresses in the same way like I played with the canadian address mentioned above, and S&T08 worked perfect with any valid american addresses I typed in for the testing purpose.... ![]() Anyway, I am so confused now and have no further idea on what else measures I shall take to trouble-shoot the problem. Still, I thank you so much for the detailed info provided. And certainly I will stick to the Laptop GPS World for sure --- 'cos I like and enjoy the open and positive atmosphere here.... Howe |

Hello Ken, Thank you very much for your attention and detailed info provided~! I religiously followed the steps you mentioned but the S&T08 still didn't work. As you may see from my reply to Marvin, I tried the American addresses and the S&T worked well and there was no problem at all... No matter what, I really appreciate your help~! And I believe that I can count on you guys to figure out how to fix the problem finally. best, Howe |

First of all, thank you for the valuable input. In terms of the laptop I am using to install the S&T08, it is a IBM Thinkpad T40. It's been working well with lots of software. I mean, I have nothing to complain to my laptop in terms of the compatibility with software to be installed on it. Of course, I tried your way by turning on the Navigation toolbar and input the address over there.. .. still didn't work. Again like I mentioned on the above replies, your method works well with any American addressed I tested on my laptop. ![]() Again, thank you very much for your detailed reply and creative thinking of possible issues involved! Good job! Howe |

Howe, I would try to reinstall Streets and Trips in this case. It appears you are not doing anything wrong, but your S&T installation has some issue.

We'd have a much easier time of it if Windows came with a built-in screencast capture program. It's much easier to diagnose these things when the action is recorded rather than described (although this particular case is quite puzzling).
Ah well, there are plenty of other things that Windows needs to bundle. |

Prt Scr. Open Paint and CTRL V, ALT F,S. Change drop down to jpg, and give it a name.
Posting pictures to this board is pretty easy if you can remember where you saved it. Of course the board will resize to 700 pixels max but it should be legible. Terry |
