LOL . The box will be bi-lingual (but I don't think the software itself will be bi-lingual). The Canadian (w/GPS Locator) version will also include the new u-Blox USB GPS stick.

To make the Streets Trips 2009 review complete, I added the following on page #1:

Quote:
Versions

As in previous years, there are two products:

* A software-only version for people who just need the program alone. That version costs around US $35. It is suitable for people who will use the program as a desktop trip-planning tool, with no intention to use it with a GPS receiver, or who already have a GPS receiver from previous Streets & Trips versions.

* A version that includes a laptop (USB) GPS receiver. This version costs around US $80. If you already own a USB GPS locator from earlier versions, or any other compatible GPS unit, you don't need to buy this version. Buy just the program alone ($35).

Microsoft Streets and Trips 2009 with GPS Locator includes in the USA the USB GPS-500 receiver by Pharos. It is the same SiRFstarIII unit that was included in 2007 and 2008 versions.

In Canada, the GPS locator included will be a new u-Blox 5 chip-based product. More info has been posted in the following thread: u-blox GPS technology to power new Microsoft USB GPS Receiver

While googling Streets 2K9 I noticed that Amazon listed it as being compatible with OS X on Intel Macs, but apparently that's not (yet) true. Hopefully that'll change but for now we're still stuck and have to use either virtualization or Boot Camp.

At least they updated the maps to include the toll roads around the Austin, TX, area.

Streets & Trips would not be in the first tier of applications to be ported to the Mac. The incremental-revenue/engineering-cost tradeoff is not favorable.

I understand that.

In any case I D/Led the trial to this MacBook, ran the installer, then when I try to launch S&T '09 I get a "licensing initialization error (Error 0xC004D301)" and am told to contact customer support. Of course they want $35 and I'm a bit leery of doing that for something I can't get to launch properly in the first place.

I'm running XP Home/SP2 under Boot Camp, and Streets '06 and Streets '08 ran fine. Might Streets '09 be looking for SP3?

Hi,

I downloaded S&T 2009 to my laptop about a week ago. Worked fine until the battery ran out and abruptly shut down the laptop. All other existing programs work normal except I can no longer access S&T 2009; I get "A licensing initialization error has occurred ERROR 0xc004d301". Tried re-installing S&T 2009 but no success. Also downloaded Map point 2009 but get the same error. Called Microsoft and they said that they do not support demo products. At this point even if I wanted to purchase and activate S&T 2009 it would not work. Ok so I then went to Office Depot and purchased Microsoft S&T 2008. It loaded ok, but never worked. The program seems like it is about to boot, but just gets stuck on boot-up. Maybe there is a connection between S&T 2009 and S&T 2008. Using Windows XP sp3. Any suggestions?

Robz:

This is the number I called to fix this problem. The number for Microsoft Tech Support is 866-452-4755.
They took control of my computer and fixed the problem.
If you want to read more about this problem click on the following link:

Streets 2008 stopping after 5-6 weeks

Hope this helps.

Mike, I'm not sure if Robz is experiencing the same issue as described in the thread. In his case S&T 08 never worked. The thread talks about an issue that started after a few weeks of problem-free usage.

Nevertheless, a phone call will very likely solve the problem.

Robz, to the forum. I wish you had purchased the new 2009 version instead of the older 2008 . The tech support would help you with your original issue in that case (they just don't support the free version).

Thank you flannigan and Marvin for your reply. You are correct, MS S&T 2008 never worked from the start, never even reached the activation screen. I did try and find S&T 2009 but the store only had S&T 2008 on the shelf. I needed S&T for trip I took the next day. Unfortunately neither S&T 2008 nor S&T 2009 nor Map point 2009 worked for my trip. I will probably find a restore point to revert back to, find the offending file or find another Map program; but in the worst case I could re-format the hard-drive and re-install Windows. However, I will never let MS tech support (or any one else) take control of my computer. Also, the S&T 2009 problem occurred after a low battery shut down event and will happen again in the future. I do not want to contact MS every time the battery runs low.

I have 2009 free trial installed on my computer as well as 2008. I have just purchased the 2009 boxed disc.
I hope you will forgive my ignorance. Should I just enter the product key in the "Activate Streets & Trips" window that opens when I try to open a map or should I uninstall the 2009 "trial" version and just install from the disc ? Does it matter ?
Thanks,
Mike Flannigan

No need to Uninstall. You can just use the product key to activate the already installed product.

Great review, Marvin. Thanks
I'm an OTR Trucker and have been using S&T 2008 on a daily basis this last year. It is a great tool, I wouldn't leave home without it, but am looking forward to the new version. Pics of setup to follow soon....

BTW, this is my 1st logon here, "Meets & Greets" to all of you!
