How to import Streets & Trips 2008 pushpins into 2009 version?
I have the trial version of 2009 running on my truck computer now, and it is ... okay. Still has issues, but I really can't test it until I import the HUNDREDS of pushpins I have added to my 2008 version.
Gosh, it would be SO simple if there was a "pushpins.dat" file I could just drag over and replace, but I looked at all of the files in both versions, and nothing seems obvious.
So how can I import all of them into the 2009 trial version? This will determine whether I buy the '09 version, or stick with '08.

Re: How to import Streets & Trips 2008 pushpins into 2009 version?
The way I do it is open a S&T 2008 file that contains all my pushpins with 2009 and save it. The only problem I see is the limited number of pushpin types built in to 2009. This makes the pushpins appear with different icons than in 2008 and prior. Possibly if I were to add the custom ones first before opening, that would solve that problem.

Thanks. I'll try that today. I just wonder if opening the 2008 map with the pushpins and saving it as a 2009 file will LOSE the street additions, changes and omissions that the 2009 maps (hopefully) contain.

The maps are part of the program, not what you save. You will not be able to add or delete any roads.

Joe, it may be a good idea to always make a backup copy of the older version file, before you convert it to a newer Streets & Trips version. If something goes wrong, you will still have the original file.
And as Terry says, the saved file contains no roads. It only has your personal stuff, such as pushpins, drawings, etc. Roads, parks, rivers, and all the other geographical features are not in the saved .est file.

So the .est file has all of that? Can't I drag the '08 .est file over and replace the '09 .est file?

Re: How to import Streets & Trips 2008 pushpins into 2009 version?
There is nothing special users need to do, Joe. Simply open the file you wish to use. If you click a file that has been saved in an older version of Streets & Trips, the program will ask you if you wish to let it convert to the new version. Click "Yes", and the program will take a few seconds to do it. That's all. Done.
(Again, it's a good idea to make a backup copy of the file, before you open the file in a newer S&T version.)

Re: How to import Streets & Trips 2008 pushpins into 2009 version?
I may be a little late posting this reply, but I have been busy.
As Marvin advised - Make a backup!!! I have, actually, had to rely on my backup this year because my new .est became corrupted. Ended up that I could no longer add pushpins.
After the backup, it is as easy as opening the old .est with the new ST2009. Confirm the conversion and then save the new file. I even add 09 into the name, so that I don't get confused.
Also, as was mentioned, if you relied on the ST pushpins, they will be converted to plain pushpins. My use of pushpins is for house numbers. Fortunately, I had created my own set for the lower numbers. I just have to convert the upper numbers now. Of which, there are a lot less of them.
And one final advantage of opening the old file and resaving, is that the push pins you created, if any, will be sorted as you had them. As I said, I had created my own number set. When I would copy a pushpin set (like the one I have called Streets that I use to mark previously unnamed streets), the program would not have the pasted pushpins in order as I had. I had used letters to mark the streets, using the first letter of the name.

Re: How to import Streets & Trips 2008 pushpins into 2009 version?
I just recently upgraded from Streets & Trips 2008 to MapPoint 2009. But I can't figure out how to transfer my saved puspins/POI's from Streets & Trips 2008 to MapPoint 2009. I already tried to copy & paste. But when I do that the pushpins appear as the new ones in MapPoint which I don't like. Anyone figured out how to do this?

Re: How to import Streets & Trips 2008 pushpins into 2009 version?
SQ609, I have no idea if the following is going to work, but if you are willing to test it, please let us know the result:
1. Import old style pushpins to your new 2009 version of MapPoint (or Streets & Trips)
2. Save as template. (Save to the appropriate folder based on your operating system.)
3. Open your old Streets & Trips file in your new 2009 version of MapPoint (or Streets & Trips).
4. Let the rest of us know if it works
[Edit: Oct. 15, 2008] Easy way to add old-style pushpin symbols to new Streets & Trips can be done by downloading the following template: http://www.laptopgpsworld.com/microsoft-streets-trips/1032-template-old-style-pushpins-streets-trips-2009-mappoint-2009-a.html
