Thanks RsH for the info. The issue affected only Streets & Trips 2007 users. The new v.2008, and even the older v.2006, were unaffected by this.

But are the updates any good?

We have been using S&T for years while travelling all over North America. We have found the construction info to be hit-or-miss at best. Sometimes the construction is non-existent. Sometimes it is clearly completed long ago. Sometimes the location is off by a long distance. Recently, we crossed the Rockies on I-70 in Colorado. S&T construction showed a long stretch of I-70 as closed (not just under construction). When we drove through, that stretch was perfect - no construction, no closure, just fine pavement.

We have reached the point where we do not even bother to download the updates.

Anyone have different experience?

How does MS find out about the construction? Do they just make it up?

Welcome to Laptop GPS World.

I don't think MS makes it up , but I personally don't use it either. There is even the option to disable it in S&T - for those who don't wish to be told every month their data is out of date .

But I suspect quite a lot of people do use that feature, because often times users mention they have issues with the updates.
