Question GPS via bluetooth logging software needed - Please.

Hi
If anyone can help I will be forever grateful.

I have a generic (eBay purchased Chinese made) gps receiver that connects via bluetooth to my laptop. All I want is a simple freeware program that will log the co-ordinates and receive the data from the gps. I have no problems connecting the laptop and gps together with bluetooth, all I need is some software that will log the data.

I have looked everywhere and can not for the life of me find anything. I have downloaded all the products I can find that might work but none of them support receiving the data from a bluetooth device.

Thanks in advance.
Elliotstan

You probably found one or more programs that will do what you want but need GPS data from a Comm port. You can determine which Comm port your Bluetooth GPS is associated with by looking in;
'Explore My Bluetooth Places' for the Widcomm stack, or
'Show Bluetooth Devices' for the Microsoft stack or
'Bluetooth Settings' for the Toshiba stack.

Any of these can be reached by right clicking on the Bluetooth icon (a stylized B in a blue oval) in the task bar next to the clock. Once you have opened the resulting dialog, you will see your GPS device.
With Widcomm, right clicking on it and choosing Properties will show the Comm port
With Microsoft, select it and click the Properties button and the Services tab.
With Toshiba right click on it and choose detail.

Once you know the Comm port, you can associate your program with that Comm port. Then turn the GPS on and see if the program can find it. If not, double click on the Device icon you previously found to connect the GPS to your computer; then try your program.

If you need pictures, tell me which Bluetooth stack you are using and I will put some together.

Or download a trial version of GPS Gate. It will find your Bluetooth GPS and present you with a selection of comm ports to use with your programs.

GPSGate will also record your "track".

Another program that will record the track is Delorme Street Atlas 2009. It'll use a bluetooth gps as long as it has a port that it can see.
