I think what may need to be done is to install DeLorme driver for 3rd party applications. I'm not sure if it's still the case, but in the past versions DeLorme Street Atlas installation program would ask if the GPS receiver would be used with only DeLorme program, or with other programs, too. Based on that a proper driver would be installed.
The driver may be found on the installation DVD and also on DeLorme website. Give that a try, it may be all that is needed.
